TrafficSafety – A traffic police officer was injured in a hit-and-run incident in southeast Delhi, and investigators have now identified the vehicle believed to be involved in the case. Officials confirmed on Wednesday that the breakthrough came after an extensive review of surveillance footage collected from the area where the incident occurred.

CCTV Review Helps Identify Suspect Vehicle

According to Delhi Police, the incident took place on June 10 near the Sarai Julena traffic signal. Investigators examined footage from multiple cameras installed around the junction, which eventually helped them trace the vehicle allegedly responsible for the collision.

Authorities stated that the vehicle has been identified as a black Kia car. Efforts are currently underway to locate the driver and determine the circumstances that led to the incident.

Traffic Officer Injured While Performing Duty

The injured officer, Head Constable Rahul Kumar, was managing traffic movement at approximately 10:30 a.m. when the accident occurred. Police said a vehicle allegedly travelling at high speed and from the wrong direction struck the officer before leaving the scene without stopping.

The impact left the traffic personnel injured while carrying out his official responsibilities at one of the busy intersections in the area. The driver reportedly fled immediately after the collision, prompting a police investigation.

Hospital Alert Led to Police Action

The matter first came to the attention of local authorities after Fortis Escorts Hospital informed Police Station New Friends Colony about the case through a Medico-Legal Case (MLC) notification.

Following the hospital’s communication, police officers visited the medical facility and recorded the statement of the injured head constable. At the time, he was receiving treatment for injuries sustained in the accident.

Officials said the officer informed investigators that he had been stationed at the Sarai Julena Red Light when a vehicle moving from the wrong side hit him and escaped from the location.

Case Registered Under Relevant Laws

After obtaining the victim’s statement and conducting an initial assessment of the incident, police registered a formal case at New Friends Colony Police Station.

Authorities confirmed that an FIR has been filed under multiple provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including sections related to negligent and dangerous conduct, along with Section 184 of the Motor Vehicles Act, which deals with hazardous driving.

The injured officer also underwent a medical examination as part of the legal process, and doctors provided the required treatment following the accident.

Investigation Continues to Locate Driver

Police officials said the identification of the vehicle marks a significant step in the investigation. Surveillance footage from the surrounding area was carefully reviewed to establish the vehicle’s identity and movement patterns.

Investigators are now focused on tracing the person behind the wheel at the time of the incident. Additional evidence is being collected, and police teams are working to apprehend the accused driver.

Authorities added that the investigation remains active and further details are expected once the driver is located and questioned. The case continues to be examined as police pursue all available leads connected to the hit-and-run incident.
