Tourism – Pahalgam Sees Tourist Return One Year After Deadly Attack
Tourism – Nearly a year after a devastating terror incident in Pahalgam that resulted in the loss of 26 lives, the region is witnessing a steady revival in tourism. Visitors from different parts of India are once again exploring the scenic destination, reflecting a growing sense of confidence among travelers returning to Kashmir’s popular spots.

Visitors Share Positive Experiences
Among those visiting recently was Dr Prajakta from Nagpur, who travelled with her family, including her mother, children, brother, and niece. She described Pahalgam as exceptionally beautiful, noting its clean surroundings and calm atmosphere. Despite initial hesitation within her family due to safety concerns, she said their experience turned out to be reassuring.
According to her, the decision to include Pahalgam in their itinerary was not easy, as concerns about safety persisted even during planning. However, upon arrival, the family felt comfortable and secure, allowing them to enjoy their time without worry.
Security Measures Boost Confidence
Following the attack, authorities had temporarily shut down 48 tourist destinations across Kashmir, including well-known locations like Baisaran. After conducting detailed security reviews, most of these sites have since reopened. However, a few areas, including Baisaran, remain restricted as a precautionary measure.
Tourists have acknowledged the visible security arrangements in place, which have contributed significantly to restoring confidence. Visitors reported a noticeable presence of security personnel and organized systems aimed at ensuring safety for all travelers.
Dr Prajakta highlighted that the arrangements made them feel protected throughout their visit. She added that her family was able to explore the region freely and enjoy its natural beauty without any disturbances.
First-Time Visitors Express Optimism
For some travelers, this was their first experience in Kashmir. Amit Kawle, Prajakta’s brother, shared that the trip left a lasting impression on him. He described the region as breathtaking and emphasized that it holds a special place as part of the country’s cultural and natural heritage.
He also expressed his intention to revisit the region in the future, suggesting that the current environment encourages repeat tourism. His remarks reflect a broader sentiment among visitors who see Kashmir as both welcoming and safe.
Repeat Tourists Highlight Stability
Not all visitors were new to the Valley. A group from Hyderabad, Telangana, who had previously visited Pahalgam, said their second trip was equally enjoyable. They were seen exploring the area, capturing photographs, and spending time in a relaxed setting.
One of the group members, Raja Reddy, stated that they encountered no difficulties during their visit. He described Pahalgam as exceptionally scenic and said the overall atmosphere remained peaceful.
When asked about safety concerns, he dismissed any fears, noting that they were able to move around freely without hesitation. He credited the improved security arrangements for creating a comfortable environment for tourists.
Call for Tourism Revival
Visitors have also encouraged others across the country to consider traveling to Kashmir. Many believe that firsthand experiences can help change lingering perceptions and support the region’s tourism-driven economy.
Reddy emphasized that there is no need for apprehension and urged people to explore Pahalgam and other destinations in the Valley. Such positive feedback from travelers is expected to play a key role in strengthening tourism recovery in the region.
With increasing footfall and favorable visitor experiences, Kashmir appears to be gradually regaining its status as a preferred travel destination, offering both natural beauty and a sense of safety to those who visit.
