TamilNaduPolitics – Karti Chidambaram Backs Vijay for Stable Tamil Nadu Government

TamilNaduPolitics – Tamil Nadu’s post-election political developments continued to draw attention after Congress leader Karti P Chidambaram expressed confidence that Chief Minister Vijay could successfully lead a stable government without relying on any faction of the AIADMK.

Tamilnadu vijay stable government

Speaking to reporters after attending a Congress consultative meeting in Pudukkottai, the Sivaganga Member of Parliament said the mandate delivered by voters clearly favoured the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). According to him, the party’s emergence as the single largest force in the Assembly made its victory in the confidence motion unsurprising.

Congress Signals Support for Vijay Leadership

Karti Chidambaram stated that the current political environment in Tamil Nadu did not require support from AIADMK breakaway groups for the government’s survival. He said Vijay already had sufficient backing to ensure administrative stability for the next five years.

He noted that while political support from outside parties may always be accepted, there was no pressing requirement for the ruling party to formally accommodate splinter factions in the government structure. He maintained that voters had clearly endorsed Vijay’s leadership during the Assembly election.

The Congress leader also indicated that his party would welcome Cabinet representation if some Congress legislators were included in the ministry. He described such a development as an important political opportunity for the party after a long gap.

Shift From DMK Alliance Discussed

Addressing criticism over Congress extending support to TVK after the election, Karti Chidambaram rejected suggestions that the move amounted to political betrayal. He explained that the DMK was not in a position to form the government following the election outcome, making Congress’ support for TVK a practical decision based on the people’s mandate.

At the same time, he acknowledged the long-standing relationship between Congress and the DMK, recalling several successful electoral partnerships over the years. He added that the transition from the previous alliance arrangement to the current political alignment could perhaps have been managed in a more respectful and balanced manner.

According to him, communication gaps may have contributed to misunderstandings during the post-election period.

INDIA Alliance Cooperation May Continue

On national politics, the Congress MP expressed hope that cooperation between Congress and the DMK would continue in Parliament under the INDIA alliance framework despite political differences in Tamil Nadu.

He pointed out that similar political arrangements already exist in states such as Kerala and West Bengal, where parties compete locally but coordinate at the national level on larger issues.

Digital Campaigning Played Key Role

Reflecting on the recent election, Karti Chidambaram said the campaign had highlighted the growing impact of digital outreach and online political communication. He observed that traditional methods such as public rallies and door-to-door campaigning were gradually losing effectiveness in regions with widespread internet access and high smartphone usage.

He credited TVK’s election strategy for adapting effectively to changing voter behaviour. According to him, the party focused heavily on digital engagement, including targeted communication aimed at reaching voters directly within households through online platforms.

He described the approach as a significant factor behind the party’s electoral success.

Appeal for Patience With New Government

Karti Chidambaram also urged the public and opposition parties not to rush to judge the new administration. He pointed out that several ministers in the government were first-time office holders and required time to gain administrative experience.

He compared the situation with earlier national leaders who also needed a period of adjustment after assuming office. Governance, he said, involves learning institutional processes and developing administrative understanding over time.

Congress Reiterates Opposition to NEET

The Congress leader once again criticised the NEET examination system and confirmed that the issue would continue to be raised in Parliament. He opposed proposals for a large-scale re-examination involving nearly 22 lakh students, calling the idea emotionally exhausting for students and parents alike.

He argued that state governments should retain the authority to decide their own admission systems, whether through entrance tests or academic performance in higher secondary examinations.

Karti Chidambaram also appealed to other states to support Tamil Nadu’s long-standing opposition to NEET and strengthen the demand for greater state autonomy in education policy.

Concerns Over Economic Measures

Commenting on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent economic announcements, Karti Chidambaram called for a detailed White Paper explaining the rationale behind the measures.

He warned that excessive emphasis on saving and reduced public spending could negatively affect sectors such as tourism, retail trade and employment generation. Economic activity, he said, depends significantly on consumer spending and circulation of money within the market.

He added that celebrations, festivals and weddings contribute substantially to economic growth by supporting jobs across multiple industries.
