SupremeCourt – Seeks State Reply in Pune Porsche Bail Case
SupremeCourt – The Supreme Court on Thursday asked the Maharashtra government to respond to a bail petition filed by the father of a teenager accused in the 2024 Pune Porsche crash that left two people dead.

Top Court Issues Notice to Maharashtra Government
A bench comprising Justice BV Nagarathna and Justice Ujjal Bhuyan took up the appeal filed by Vishal Agarwal, who is challenging the Bombay High Court’s decision denying him bail. The court issued a formal notice to the state government and scheduled the matter for hearing on March 10.
Agarwal is among several individuals arrested in connection with the high-profile case that triggered national debate over juvenile accountability and parental responsibility.
Background of the Pune Porsche Crash
The incident occurred on May 19, 2024, in Pune’s Kalyani Nagar area, a busy residential and commercial neighborhood. A 17-year-old boy, allegedly driving a Porsche under the influence of alcohol, is accused of fatally hitting two IT professionals riding a motorcycle.
The crash drew widespread public attention due to the luxury vehicle involved and the age of the accused driver. Questions were raised about how a minor gained access to the car and whether adults failed to prevent the tragedy.
High Court Earlier Rejected Bail Pleas
On December 16 last year, the Bombay High Court refused bail to eight accused persons, including Vishal Agarwal and others linked to the case. The high court’s order came amid ongoing investigations into allegations of evidence tampering, including the swapping of blood samples.
Authorities have alleged that attempts were made to manipulate medical records following the crash. This aspect of the case resulted in additional arrests beyond the initial charges related to the accident itself.
Supreme Court Grants Bail to Three Accused
Earlier this month, the Supreme Court granted bail to three other accused in the case. While allowing their release, the court observed that parents often bear responsibility in incidents involving minors, particularly when supervision appears lacking.
The three individuals granted bail were Amar Santish Gaikwad, who is alleged to have acted as a middleman, and Aditya Avinash Sood and Ashish Satish Mittal, the parents of two other juveniles who were reportedly present in the vehicle at the time of the accident. The court noted that they had been in custody for approximately 18 months before being granted relief.
In separate proceedings on January 23 and January 7, the apex court had also sought responses from the Maharashtra government on bail applications filed by other accused persons.
Arrests Linked to Blood Sample Investigation
Sood, aged 52, and Mittal, aged 37, were arrested on August 19 last year. Investigators allege that their blood samples were used in tests connected to two minors who were in the car along with the 17-year-old main accused. This led to a wider probe into possible attempts to obstruct the investigation.
The alleged blood sample swapping brought medical professionals and hospital staff under scrutiny. Several individuals, including doctors and hospital employees, were taken into custody as part of the inquiry.
Juvenile Proceedings and Public Reaction
Soon after the crash, the Juvenile Justice Board granted bail to the minor accused under certain conditions, including writing an essay on road safety. The decision sparked public criticism, with many questioning whether the terms were proportionate to the gravity of the incident.
Following the backlash, Pune police approached the board seeking a review of the order. The board subsequently revised its decision and sent the teenager to an observation home.
In June, however, the Bombay High Court ordered the juvenile’s release from the observation facility.
Ongoing Legal Scrutiny
At present, ten accused persons, including the juvenile’s parents Vishal Agarwal and Shivani Agarwal, along with medical professionals and other individuals linked to the alleged tampering of evidence, remain embroiled in legal proceedings.
With the Supreme Court now seeking the Maharashtra government’s response to Vishal Agarwal’s latest bail plea, the case continues to move through multiple judicial stages. The upcoming hearing on March 10 is expected to shape the next phase of this closely watched legal battle.
