ShivSena – Speculation Grows Over Alleged Plan to Shift UBT MPs

ShivSena – Fresh political chatter in Maharashtra has triggered speculation about a possible strategy being attributed to Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, with claims suggesting efforts to bring Members of Parliament from the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT) into his camp. The reports have sparked debate within political circles, although no official confirmation has emerged.

Claims Surrounding Alleged Strategy

According to sources familiar with the developments, the reported initiative—informally being referred to as “Operation Tiger”—is believed to be aimed at strengthening Shinde’s position in the Lok Sabha. The speculation gained traction after Shinde’s recent two-day visit to New Delhi, where he is said to have held meetings with party leaders and MPs.

These discussions, sources claim, may have included conversations on potential political shifts and the timing of such moves. However, details remain unclear, and there has been no direct acknowledgment of such a plan from Shinde or his office.

Denial From Shiv Sena Leadership

Responding to the growing buzz, Shiv Sena minister Uday Samant dismissed the claims, stating that no such operation exists. He clarified that Shinde’s visit to the national capital was focused on routine political engagements.

Samant explained that the deputy chief minister met Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with party MPs and senior leaders, to assess performance and improve coordination with alliance partner Bharatiya Janata Party. He also pointed out that Shinde expressed support for the prime minister during recent criticism from opposition parties over issues related to LPG supply.

Political Context and Legal Background

The speculation comes at a time when the Supreme Court is expected to hear arguments regarding the dispute over the Shiv Sena’s party name and election symbol. Political observers note that this legal battle has added another layer of complexity to the ongoing rivalry between the Shinde-led faction and the Uddhav Thackeray camp.

Sources suggest that increasing the number of MPs could strengthen Shinde’s case, particularly in demonstrating broader support within the party structure. A higher representation in Parliament, alongside the existing support of MLAs, could play a role in shaping perceptions during legal proceedings.

Internal Response From UBT Camp

Leaders from the Shiv Sena (UBT) have rejected the speculation outright, asserting that their MPs remain firmly aligned with Uddhav Thackeray. A senior leader from the faction stated that attempts to attract their MPs have been ongoing but unsuccessful.

The leader emphasized that those who intended to switch sides had already done so in the past, and the remaining MPs are committed to the party’s leadership. Confidence remains high within the UBT camp that no further defections will occur, especially at a time they describe as politically sensitive.

Ongoing Political Uncertainty

As both factions continue to consolidate their positions, the situation reflects the broader political uncertainty within Maharashtra. While speculation about strategic moves continues, concrete developments remain limited.

Observers believe that the coming weeks, particularly with the anticipated Supreme Court hearings, could prove crucial in determining the direction of the ongoing political contest within the Shiv Sena.
