Lieutenant Governor Seeks Immediate Action

Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu on Tuesday expressed strong concern over the reported assault involving Brigadier P.S. Arora, his wife, and their 23-year-old son, who is a graduate of IIT Delhi. In an official statement, he said he had personally contacted the officer to check on the family’s well-being following the incident.

The Lieutenant Governor also confirmed that he had spoken with senior police officials, including the Commissioner of Police and the Deputy Commissioner concerned. He instructed them to conduct a prompt and detailed investigation and ensure that those responsible are identified and dealt with as per the law. Additionally, he directed the police to provide necessary security to the affected family.

He reiterated the administration’s commitment to maintaining law and order and ensuring the safety of all citizens.

Political Response Raises Questions

The response from the Lieutenant Governor, however, drew criticism from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Delhi AAP chief Saurabh Bharadwaj questioned the timing of the statement, noting that the incident had occurred several days earlier.

He suggested that the reaction appeared delayed and came only after widespread public attention and concerns raised by members of the armed forces community. Bharadwaj also alleged that key aspects of the incident had not been fully addressed in the official communication.

Allegations Against Police Handling

Bharadwaj further raised concerns about the conduct of the police during and after the incident. He claimed that despite the presence of police personnel at the scene, no immediate action was taken when the alleged assault occurred.

According to him, even after it became clear that the victims belonged to the armed forces, an FIR was not registered promptly, nor were the accused detained at the spot. He emphasized that Delhi Police operates under the administrative control of the Lieutenant Governor, making accountability a critical issue.

Arrests Made, Vehicle Seized

Meanwhile, Delhi Police confirmed that two individuals have been arrested in connection with the case. The accused have been identified as Satender, also known as Sonu, aged 49, and Sanjay Sharma, aged 56. Both are residents of Mehram Nagar.

Police officials stated that the altercation reportedly began when the Brigadier’s son objected to the accused consuming alcohol near their residence. The situation escalated, leading to the alleged assault.

Authorities also revealed details about the accused. Satender is associated with a private aviation company, Chaudhary Aviation Pvt Ltd, which deals in flight services and aircraft-related business. The second accused, Sanjay Sharma, operates a local eatery named Pandit Ji Dhaba.

A luxury Mercedes vehicle linked to the incident has been seized as part of the investigation.

Ongoing Investigation and Public Concern

The case continues to be investigated, with officials indicating that further legal action will follow based on evidence. The incident has sparked wider discussions about public safety, accountability, and the responsiveness of law enforcement agencies in sensitive cases involving members of the armed forces.

Observers note that such incidents often attract heightened public attention due to the stature of those involved, but also underline broader concerns about security in residential areas of the national capital.

As the investigation progresses, authorities have assured that due process will be followed and necessary steps will be taken to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
