Security – Centre Deploys Additional CRPF Companies to Strengthen Delhi Security During Protests
Security –The Central Government has directed the deployment of 20 additional companies of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in the national capital to reinforce security arrangements as political demonstrations continue alongside the ongoing Monsoon Session of Parliament. The decision comes as authorities aim to maintain public order and ensure smooth functioning across key locations in Delhi.
MHA Orders Fresh Deployment
According to officials, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) issued the deployment order on Tuesday night after reviewing the prevailing security situation. Following the directive, CRPF personnel started being transported by air from Kolkata to Delhi. Security agencies said the reinforcements are intended to assist the Delhi Police in managing public gatherings, protest marches, and other law and order responsibilities during the current period of heightened activity.
Additional Forces Arrive From West Bengal
Official sources stated that all 20 CRPF companies are being shifted from Kolkata, where they had remained stationed after the West Bengal Assembly elections conducted earlier this year. Although the election process had concluded, the personnel continued to stay in the state following a request from the West Bengal government. With the latest security assessment in Delhi, the Centre decided to redeploy these units to the capital.
Each CRPF company generally consists of around 100 personnel, providing substantial manpower for crowd management, area security, and support operations alongside local police.
Security Reinforced After Recent Clashes
Officials indicated that the latest reinforcement follows several incidents of violence witnessed during recent protest demonstrations. The clashes prompted security agencies to reassess deployment requirements and increase the presence of central forces at sensitive locations across the city.
Authorities believe that the additional personnel will help improve coordination, prevent disruptions, and respond quickly if any untoward incidents occur during public demonstrations. Security arrangements are also being strengthened around important government buildings and other strategic areas where large gatherings are expected.
Support for Delhi Police During Parliament Session
The newly deployed CRPF companies will work in coordination with the Delhi Police, which is responsible for maintaining law and order in the national capital. Officials said the objective is to ensure peaceful conduct of protests while maintaining security during the Monsoon Session of Parliament, which commenced on July 20.
The fresh deployment is over and above the nearly 30 companies of the CRPF and its specialised Rapid Action Force (RAF) that had already been made available to the Delhi Police by the Centre. These forces have been engaged in security duties linked to demonstrations organised by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), protests by various political groups, and arrangements surrounding parliamentary proceedings.
Authorities Continue Close Monitoring
Security officials said the situation in Delhi continues to be monitored closely, with central and local agencies maintaining regular coordination. Deployment levels may be reviewed depending on the evolving security environment and the scale of future demonstrations.
The reinforcement reflects the Centre’s effort to ensure adequate security personnel remain available to support civil authorities, manage public gatherings, and safeguard essential government institutions while Parliament remains in session.
