Rescue Teams Maintain Vigil at Site

According to officials involved in the operation, emergency responders are taking additional precautions to ensure that no individuals remain trapped beneath the debris. Although the large-scale rescue effort is nearing completion, teams from various agencies are continuing inspections of the affected area. Authorities stated that the operation will only be declared complete after a thorough verification process.

Police Launch Investigation Into Building Owner

Law enforcement agencies have initiated legal proceedings against the owner of the collapsed structure. A case has been registered under multiple provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including charges linked to culpable homicide not amounting to murder, negligence connected to construction-related activities, and actions that allegedly endangered human life.

Investigators confirmed that the building owner has not yet been located. Several police teams have been assigned to track him down, and efforts are underway to secure his arrest. Officials said the investigation is examining whether any violations or omissions contributed to the incident.

Six Lives Lost in Tragic Collapse

The building collapse occurred on Saturday evening near Saket Metro Station and resulted in the deaths of six people while leaving eight others injured. The multi-storey structure housed a coaching institute along with several cafes and office spaces.

Many of those affected were students preparing for competitive examinations, including candidates studying for the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE). Medical authorities reported that five injured victims later died while receiving treatment at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). Another victim succumbed to injuries at Safdarjung Hospital.

Area Known as Student Hub

The incident took place at approximately 7:40 pm on Westend Marg in the Saidulajab locality. The neighbourhood is widely recognized as an educational hub, attracting students from different parts of the country. The area contains numerous coaching centres, libraries, hostels, and food establishments that primarily serve aspirants preparing for medical, engineering, and other competitive entrance examinations.

Witnesses reported chaos immediately after the collapse, prompting a rapid response from emergency services. Rescue workers, police personnel, and medical teams reached the scene shortly after receiving information about the incident.

Structural Concerns Under Examination

Authorities are now investigating the possible reasons behind the collapse. Preliminary inquiries are focusing on factors such as structural deficiencies, construction activities reportedly taking place on upper levels of the building, and potential breaches of building regulations.

In a related development, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi has taken disciplinary action against two officials. An assistant engineer and a junior engineer have been suspended over alleged supervisory lapses connected to the building. Officials said departmental inquiries will continue alongside the broader investigation.

The findings of the ongoing probe are expected to determine accountability and help identify measures aimed at preventing similar incidents in the future.
