Government Launches Special Rescue Operation

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta officially launched the campaign from Mukhyamantri Seva Sadan by flagging off a fleet of specially designed rescue ambulances and support vehicles. The drive will continue until May 15 and will cover all 13 districts of Delhi.

Officials involved in the programme said the initiative is focused on identifying people who are living without shelter near roadsides, railway stations, bus terminals, religious sites, and other crowded public locations. The administration plans to extend immediate assistance to more than 300 individuals during the campaign period.

Medical Care and Shelter Arrangements Expanded

Authorities stated that priority is being given to people suffering from severe health conditions, including tuberculosis, cancer, and AIDS. Rescue teams have been instructed to ensure that such individuals receive urgent medical attention along with safe accommodation and nutritious meals.

Those brought under the programme are being shifted to Apna Ghar Ashram, where dedicated arrangements have been made for treatment, recovery support, and long-term care. Government officials confirmed that the shelter currently has the capacity to accommodate up to 500 people, including separate facilities for men and women.

According to officials, nearly 100 staff members and around 50 volunteers are working continuously as part of the mission. The campaign is being supported by 19 rescue ambulances and 10 additional service vehicles deployed across different districts.

Dedicated Monitoring System Introduced

To improve coordination during the operation, the Delhi government has also introduced a round-the-clock single-window response system in partnership with the Social Welfare Department. The system is expected to streamline rescue operations, medical referrals, transportation, and rehabilitation procedures.

Officials said the first phase of the campaign has already shown early progress, with nearly 20 homeless individuals rescued and shifted to care facilities within the initial stage of the drive.

Focus on Rehabilitation and Family Reunification

Speaking during the launch event, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the campaign is intended to reach people who are often ignored despite facing serious hardships on the streets. She stated that rescue vehicles and ambulances would travel across different areas of Delhi to identify abandoned and sick individuals requiring immediate help.

The Chief Minister further said that rescued persons would receive proper treatment, food, medical supervision, and rehabilitation support at the shelter facility. She added that efforts would also be made to reconnect recovered individuals with their families whenever possible.

For those who do not have family support, the government has assured continued care and shelter at the Ashram. Officials emphasized that the initiative is designed not only to provide emergency assistance but also to restore dignity and stability to people living in extreme vulnerability.

The campaign is being viewed as one of the capital’s major social welfare efforts focused on homelessness, healthcare access, and humanitarian support during the summer season.
