Agreement Formalized in Presence of State Leadership

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was exchanged on Thursday in the presence of Human Resource Development and Information Technology Minister Nara Lokesh. The agreement was signed by Andhra Pradesh Commissioner of Higher Education Narayana Bharat Gupta and B. Suresh, who serves as Director of Technical Education at JSS Mahavidyapeetha and Pro-Chancellor of JSS AHER.

The collaboration marks the beginning of a long-term academic partnership designed to improve access to advanced education and research opportunities within the state.

Tirupati Campus to Be Developed in Phases

According to the agreement, JSS Mahavidyapeetha will immediately begin the process of establishing the JSS AHER off-campus centre in Tirupati. In addition to the proposed campus, the institution will also examine the possibility of setting up other specialized educational institutions under the JSS network across Andhra Pradesh in the future.

Officials believe the initiative will contribute to the state’s efforts to build a stronger knowledge and innovation-based economy.

Institution with Strong Academic Credentials

JSS AHER, headquartered in Mysuru, Karnataka, is widely recognized for its academic standards and research contributions. The deemed-to-be university holds a NAAC A++ accreditation and secured the 21st position among higher educational institutions in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2025 rankings.

The university functions under the umbrella of JSS Mahavidyapeetha, an educational organization that manages more than 300 institutions across India and several international locations.

Five Academic Schools Planned

The proposed Tirupati campus will focus on multidisciplinary education through five major schools. These will include Advanced Engineering and Technologies, Life Sciences and Biotechnology, Healthcare and Allied Sciences, Business and Entrepreneurship, and Law, Humanities, Policy and Governance.

Once fully operational, the campus is expected to offer 74 specialized academic programs. Authorities estimate that the institution will eventually accommodate more than 10,000 students, creating a substantial academic hub in the region.

Focus on Research and Innovation

A key feature of the project will be the creation of several Centres of Excellence dedicated to cutting-edge research. Planned research areas include Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare, Semiconductor Applications, Translational Biotechnology, Health Policy and Governance, Public Administration, Healthcare Entrepreneurship, and Aerospace Medicine.

These centres are expected to support advanced research, encourage industry collaboration, and provide students with opportunities to work on emerging technologies and real-world challenges.

Economic and Employment Benefits Expected

As part of the MoU, the Andhra Pradesh government has assured support for the establishment and expansion of the JSS AHER off-campus centre and related institutions. The project aligns with the state’s Swarna Andhra@2047 vision, which focuses on long-term economic growth, innovation, and human resource development.

Officials project that the initiative could generate more than 20,000 direct and indirect employment and livelihood opportunities over time. The establishment of a high-quality academic and research ecosystem is also expected to help retain talented students, researchers, and professionals within the state, reducing the need for them to pursue opportunities elsewhere.
