Agriculture Support – Andhra Pradesh Expands Subsidised Seed Supply for Kharif Farmers
Agriculture Support – The Andhra Pradesh government has intensified efforts to lower cultivation costs for farmers by ensuring the availability of paddy seeds at subsidised rates ahead of the Kharif season. As part of the initiative, farmers are receiving a subsidy of Rs 10 per kilogram on paddy seeds, while members of Scheduled Tribe communities are being provided with a significantly higher subsidy covering up to 90 percent of the seed cost.

Adequate Seed Stocks Prepared for Kharif Season
Agriculture officials have confirmed that sufficient seed reserves are available across the district to meet seasonal demand. According to Joint Director of Agriculture Y V Murli Krishna, a stock of 31,058 quintals of paddy seeds has been arranged, ensuring uninterrupted supply for farmers preparing for cultivation. The availability of this large stock is expected to prevent any shortage during the upcoming agricultural season.
Multiple Seed Varieties Available Through Service Centres
To improve accessibility, various paddy seed varieties are being distributed through Rytu Seva Kendras. Farmers can directly purchase the seeds from these centres without difficulty. The government has also focused on simplifying the procurement process so that cultivators can obtain the required seed varieties based on their farming needs and local conditions.
Technology-Based Fertiliser Distribution System
Alongside seed distribution, authorities are promoting the use of digital tools to improve transparency in agricultural input management. Fertiliser allocation and monitoring will be carried out through the Andhra Pradesh Agriculture Input Management System (APAIMS) mobile application. The platform has been designed to streamline fertiliser supply and ensure that resources reach eligible farmers efficiently.
Agriculture department officials have conducted awareness programmes to familiarise farmers with the mobile application. During these sessions, cultivators were informed about the registration process, usage methods, and the benefits of the digital system. Officials explained that fertiliser distribution would be linked to farmers’ records and the extent of cultivated land, helping ensure fair and accurate allocation.
Preparations Underway for Weather-Related Challenges
The state government is also taking precautionary measures to address possible climatic challenges during the cultivation season. Weather forecasts indicate the possibility of lower rainfall levels due to the influence of El Niño conditions. In response, agricultural authorities have prepared contingency plans aimed at minimising potential crop losses.
One of the key measures includes the supply of short-duration paddy varieties that can mature within 125 to 135 days. These varieties are considered suitable for areas that may experience dry spells or delayed rainfall. Officials believe that promoting such seed varieties can help farmers maintain productivity despite uncertain weather conditions.
Transparent Supply of Fertilisers Planned
In addition to seeds, the government has assured farmers of a transparent and systematic supply of urea and other essential fertilisers. The APAIMS mobile platform will play a central role in monitoring distribution, reducing irregularities, and ensuring that agricultural inputs are delivered based on actual cultivation requirements.
Through a combination of subsidies, technology-driven management systems, and climate preparedness strategies, the Andhra Pradesh government aims to support farmers during the Kharif season and strengthen agricultural productivity across the state.
