Punjab Police – Vikramjeet Singh Brought to Amritsar in Ajnala Police Station Attack Case
Punjab Police – Punjab Police on Wednesday transported Vikramjeet Singh, one of the main accused in the 2023 Ajnala police station attack case, from the district jail in Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh, to Amritsar under strict security arrangements. The transfer was carried out after investigators obtained a production warrant from the court. Singh, aged 33, is believed to be associated with the Waris Punjab De organization and is facing legal proceedings linked to the widely discussed incident.
Court Appearance Scheduled in Amritsar
According to officials, Vikramjeet Singh is expected to appear before the Judicial Magistrate’s court in Ajnala on July 30. The court hearing is part of the ongoing investigation into the attack on the police station that drew significant public attention in 2023. After the legal formalities in Punjab are completed, he will be taken back to Bahraich. He is also required to appear before a local court there on August 6 in connection with a separate criminal matter.
Arrest Near the India-Nepal Border
The accused was recently taken into custody during a joint operation conducted by the Rupaidiha Police and the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). Authorities stated that the operation took place near the India-Nepal border on July 23 when Vikramjeet Singh was allegedly attempting to enter India without valid travel documents.
He was arrested along with Manveer Singh Dhillon, a United States citizen. Officials said that Dhillon’s wife and their eight-month-old child possessed valid travel documents and, therefore, were permitted to continue their journey without any legal action.
Judicial Custody After Initial Hearing
Following the arrest, both Vikramjeet Singh and Manveer Singh Dhillon were produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s court in Bahraich. The court subsequently ordered that both men be sent to judicial custody while the investigation and related legal proceedings continue.
Protest Over Amritpal Singh and Bandi Singhs
In a separate development on Wednesday, supporters of Akali Dal Waris Punjab De staged a protest demanding the release of Khadoor Sahib Member of Parliament Amritpal Singh, who remains in jail, along with Sikh prisoners commonly referred to as the Bandi Singhs. The protesters attempted to march towards the residence of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann after announcing plans to surround the location as part of their demonstration.
Police Use Water Cannons to Control Crowd
The protest led to tense scenes near the Chandigarh-Mohali border after demonstrators attempted to move beyond police barricades. As the crowd pushed forward, Chandigarh Police used water cannons to disperse the protesters and prevent them from advancing further.
Authorities also deployed anti-riot vehicles and strengthened security around the Chief Minister’s residence to avoid any breach of law and order. The situation remained under close monitoring as police personnel maintained barricades and controlled the movement of protesters. No immediate reports of major injuries or extensive damage were officially confirmed, while security agencies continued to monitor developments throughout the day.
