Politics – West Bengal Assembly Begins New Term With Oath Ceremony
Politics – Newly elected legislators in West Bengal officially began their term on Wednesday as members of the state Assembly took oath during a formal ceremony held in Kolkata.

Senior Leaders and Ministers Take Oath in Assembly
The swearing-in process was conducted by Pro tem Speaker Tapas Roy inside the 294-member West Bengal Legislative Assembly. Several newly appointed ministers were among those who completed the oath-taking formalities during the session.
Prominent leaders including Agnimitra Paul, Dilip Ghosh, Ashok Kirtania, Kshudiram Tudu and Nisith Pramanik were sworn in as members of the House. The ceremony marked the official start of the new legislative term following the recently concluded Assembly elections in the state.
Chief Minister Marks First Day in Assembly
Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari attended the Assembly on his first official day in office after leading the BJP to a historic electoral victory in West Bengal. Before entering the Assembly chamber, he paid floral tributes to the statue of Dr B R Ambedkar located within the Assembly premises.
The chief minister was also given a ceremonial guard of honour upon his arrival at the Assembly complex. In a symbolic gesture before entering the House, Adhikari bowed at the entrance and touched his forehead to the ground.
The moment drew attention from legislators and officials present at the venue as the new government formally assumed its responsibilities in the Assembly.
BJP Registers Historic Electoral Success
The recent Assembly elections proved significant for the Bharatiya Janata Party in West Bengal, with the party securing its first-ever victory in the state. Suvendu Adhikari emerged as one of the central figures of the election campaign and registered victories from both Bhabanipur and Nandigram constituencies.
Political observers view the development as an important shift in the state’s political landscape, as the BJP formed the government after years of intense electoral competition in West Bengal.
The oath-taking ceremony also reflected the beginning of administrative and legislative activities for the newly elected government and opposition members in the Assembly.
Administrative Review Meeting Scheduled
According to officials, the chief minister is scheduled to hold a review meeting with departmental secretaries later in the day at the state secretariat, Nabanna. The meeting is expected to begin at 2 pm and will reportedly focus on administrative coordination and governance priorities of the new government.
Senior bureaucrats from different departments are likely to attend the session as the administration prepares to begin work under the newly formed government.
The Assembly proceedings and subsequent meetings are being closely watched as the new leadership starts outlining its governance agenda for the state.
