PoliceInvestigation – A Head Constable posted in Madhya Pradesh’s Chhatarpur district was found dead under suspicious circumstances inside an abandoned police outpost on Friday morning, leading authorities to launch a detailed investigation into the incident.
The case surfaced in the jurisdiction of Chhatarpur after local residents informed police about a body hanging inside a disused police building near Nowgong. Officers from the nearby station quickly reached the location, secured the area, and initiated preliminary procedures before sending the body for post-mortem examination.
Deceased Officer Identified by Police
Police later identified the deceased as Tarun Gandharak, a 35-year-old Head Constable originally from Sagar. He was serving at the Nowgong police station at the time of the incident. Officials confirmed that he was not on active duty when the incident occurred and was wearing civilian clothes when his body was discovered.
According to investigators, the abandoned outpost had not been operational for a considerable period. A newly functioning police outpost currently operates directly across the road from the old structure. Senior officers and forensic personnel inspected both the scene and surrounding areas as part of the initial inquiry.
Forensic Team Examines Evidence
A team from the Forensic Science Laboratory collected material evidence from the site to help establish the circumstances surrounding the death. Officials said no suicide note was recovered during the search, making the investigation dependent on forensic findings, witness accounts, and technical evidence.
Sub-Divisional Officer of Police Amit Meshram stated that preliminary observations suggest the possibility of suicide, though investigators are examining all angles before drawing final conclusions. He noted that the constable may have been under mental stress, but authorities are waiting for medical and forensic reports before confirming any motive.
Investigation Continues Pending Medical Reports
Police officials said the post-mortem report is expected to provide greater clarity regarding the exact cause and timing of death. Investigators are also attempting to reconstruct the sequence of events leading up to the incident and determine whether the officer had communicated with anyone shortly before his death.
The incident has drawn attention within local police circles, with senior officers monitoring the progress of the investigation closely. Authorities have assured that all findings will be examined carefully and that further action will depend on forensic and autopsy results.
Officials added that, at present, the case is being treated as a suspected suicide based on the initial scene assessment. However, they emphasized that no possibility has been ruled out until the investigation is completed and all scientific reports are reviewed.
