PMGSY – Centre Clears Rural Roads and Bridge Projects for Ongole Connectivity Boost

PMGSY – The Union government has approved a major infrastructure package aimed at improving road connectivity in rural parts of the Ongole Parliamentary constituency. Under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY)-IV for the 2026-27 financial year, the Ministry of Rural Development has sanctioned projects worth Rs 30.506 crore for the construction of five roads and four high-level bridges, strengthening transport links for several remote habitations.

Focus on All-Weather Rural Connectivity

The approved projects include the construction of 14.40 kilometres of rural roads along with 207.26 metres of high-level bridges. Once completed, the new infrastructure is expected to provide reliable all-weather access to five villages that currently face transportation challenges, especially during the monsoon season. The initiative is designed to improve connectivity while supporting easier movement of people, agricultural produce and essential services.

Centre Approves Projects Under PMGSY-IV

The proposal has been cleared under Batch-I of PMGSY-IV, one of the Centre’s flagship rural infrastructure programmes. Union Minister for Rural Development and Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Shivraj Singh Chouhan informed Ongole Member of Parliament Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy about the approval and urged local authorities to ensure that the projects are completed on schedule without compromising construction standards or quality.

Roads Planned Across Multiple Mandals

The sanctioned package covers road works in different mandals of the constituency. A two-kilometre road will connect the Darsi-Addanki Road with Pulipadu Thanda in Mundlamuru mandal. Another major stretch of 5.90 kilometres has been approved from KP Road to Kambaladinne through Renimadugu in Pamuru mandal. In the same region, a separate 1.60-kilometre road will link Renimadugu with Akkampeta.

Another project includes a 4.15-kilometre road connecting Raghunathapuram to Bodawada through Rajasaheb village. In Yerragondapalem mandal, a 0.75-kilometre connecting road will provide access to Veerayapalem from the Yerragondapalem-Kolukula Road, improving travel for local residents.

High-Level Bridges to Improve Year-Round Access

The approved infrastructure package also includes four high-level bridges. Two of these structures will be built across the Nerella Vagu, while the remaining bridges will span nearby local streams. These bridges are expected to improve year-round mobility by reducing disruptions caused by seasonal water flow, ensuring uninterrupted access to villages even during heavy rainfall.

Expected Benefits for Rural Communities

The new road and bridge projects are expected to strengthen transportation networks across the constituency by making travel safer and more dependable. Better connectivity can also support access to education, healthcare, markets and government services while facilitating the movement of agricultural products. With construction planned under PMGSY-IV, the focus remains on improving rural infrastructure through durable and quality road networks that serve communities over the long term.
