Speaker to Decide on Recognition Request

Speaking in Kolkata on Sunday, West Bengal minister Dilip Ghosh said the final decision regarding the status of the MPs lies entirely with the Lok Sabha Speaker. He noted that elected representatives are free to meet the Speaker and place their concerns or requests before him.

Ghosh stated that he was not aware of the exact purpose of the reported meeting or the details discussed during it. However, he acknowledged that significant political activity was taking place within the Trinamool Congress and suggested that ongoing developments could have wider implications.

Separate Seating Possible if Recognition Granted

According to Ghosh, the parliamentary process requires a written submission to be reviewed before any decision is taken. He explained that if the MPs receive recognition as an independent group or party, they could become eligible for separate seating arrangements in the Lok Sabha.

He further remarked that the Speaker would examine all relevant documents before arriving at a conclusion. His comments came amid increasing speculation about the future political alignment of certain TMC lawmakers.

Questions Over Investigations Continue

Ghosh also commented on the recent questioning of TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee by investigative agencies. He noted that Banerjee has appeared before authorities on multiple occasions and continues to receive notices from different agencies.

Referring to the ongoing investigations, Ghosh said that Banerjee has previously cooperated with inquiries and is once again being called for questioning. His remarks added another layer to the political debate currently unfolding in West Bengal.

Mahua Moitra Targets Senior Party Leader

The internal tensions became more visible after TMC MP Mahua Moitra publicly criticized senior party leader and Kolkata North MP Sudip Bandyopadhyay. In a post shared on social media platform X, Moitra accused Bandyopadhyay of pretending to be unwell while allegedly travelling to New Delhi to meet Union Minister Bhupender Yadav.

She also referred to past controversies involving the veteran leader and questioned his loyalty to the party. Her comments quickly drew attention as reports of differences within the Trinamool Congress continued to circulate.

Reports of New Parliamentary Alignment

Amid the growing political dispute, reports have emerged that a group of 20 Lok Sabha MPs has formed a separate bloc in the Lower House. The lawmakers reportedly claim to represent the “real TMC” and have sought an independent seating arrangement within Parliament.

Adding to the significance of the development, rebel MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar stated that the group has merged with the Nationalist Citizens Party of India (NCPI). She further claimed that the MPs would extend support to the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), a move that could influence parliamentary dynamics in the coming months.

Political Future Under Watch

The unfolding developments have sparked widespread attention in both West Bengal and national political circles. While the Speaker’s decision is awaited, the situation has highlighted growing tensions within the Trinamool Congress and raised questions about the future direction of several party parliamentarians.

Observers are closely monitoring the developments, as any formal recognition of the rebel group could have important consequences for parliamentary representation and political alignments at the national level.
