The recognition was formally conferred at Rashtrapati Bhavan on June 23, marking a significant tribute to the actor’s decades-long contribution to Indian entertainment. While the honour brought pride to those who admired his work, it also revived emotions among friends and colleagues who wished he had been present to receive the award himself.

Family Accepts Honour on Actor’s Behalf

Since Satish Shah passed away last year, the prestigious award was accepted by his cousin, Arvind Mamania, during the ceremony. The recognition acknowledged Shah’s remarkable contribution to Indian cinema, television, and theatre over a career that spanned more than four decades.

The event served as a reminder of the actor’s enduring influence on generations of audiences who enjoyed his memorable performances across multiple platforms.

Co-Stars Remember Their Beloved ‘Kaka’

Several members of the entertainment industry paid tribute to the late actor after the ceremony. Actor Deven Bhojani shared a video related to the award and expressed both pride and sadness while remembering his longtime friend and colleague.

In his message, Bhojani said that while everyone felt proud to see Satish Shah receive such a distinguished honour, they deeply missed his presence on the occasion. He also highlighted that the award recognized Shah’s exceptional contribution to Indian arts and entertainment.

Actor Rupali Ganguly also shared her emotions on social media. Reposting a message related to the honour, she wrote that Shah was among the most deserving recipients of the Padma Shri and wished he had personally accepted the recognition. Her heartfelt note reflected the affection many colleagues held for the actor, whom they fondly called “Kaka.”

Apart from cinema, Shah became a household name through television. His work in popular shows such as Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi and Sarabhai vs Sarabhai established him as one of the most respected performers in Indian television history.

One of Satish Shah’s most celebrated characters was Indravadan Sarabhai in the cult television comedy Sarabhai vs Sarabhai. His portrayal of the cheerful and witty family patriarch remains one of the most loved performances in Indian television.

Following his passing on October 25, 2025, at the age of 74, members of the Sarabhai vs Sarabhai family came together to pay their final respects. Actors including Rupali Ganguly, Sumit Raghavan, Rajesh Kumar, Deven Bhojani, JD Majethia, and creator Aatish Kapadia honoured him by singing the show’s iconic title track during his farewell ceremony.

The Padma Shri recognition now stands as a lasting tribute to Satish Shah’s immense contribution to Indian entertainment, ensuring that his work and influence continue to be remembered for generations to come.
