News Cleanup – Delhi Government Intensifies Yamuna Restoration and Digital Governance Drive

News Cleanup –  Chief Minister Rekha Gupta participated in a public cleanliness campaign at Chilla Village Ghat on Sunday, urging residents to play an active role in protecting the Yamuna River. Speaking during the “Clean Delhi with CM” initiative, she said restoring the river’s health requires collective participation rather than relying solely on government efforts. The campaign witnessed enthusiastic participation from volunteers, youth groups, local residents, and several social organisations.

Citizens Encouraged to Support River Conservation

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister described the Yamuna as an integral part of Delhi’s heritage, identity, and daily life. She said preserving the river’s cleanliness and ensuring its uninterrupted flow should remain a shared commitment of every resident. According to her, lasting environmental improvements can only be achieved when citizens and authorities work together toward a common goal.

Government Expands Long-Term Rejuvenation Measures

Highlighting the administration’s ongoing efforts, Rekha Gupta said the Delhi Government is implementing a comprehensive and scientifically planned strategy to revive the Yamuna. The initiative includes upgrading existing sewage treatment plants while establishing additional decentralised treatment facilities in different parts of the city. These projects are intended to improve wastewater management and reduce untreated discharge into the river.

She further stated that authorities are expanding the sewer network across Delhi and taking measures to intercept and treat drains before they empty into the Yamuna. These infrastructure improvements form an important part of the government’s long-term environmental planning aimed at improving water quality and supporting sustainable urban development.

Community Participation Remains a Key Focus

The Chief Minister emphasised that environmental protection cannot be achieved through government action alone. She praised the participation of young volunteers, community members, and social organisations in the cleanliness drive, saying such public involvement strengthens awareness and encourages responsible civic behaviour. She added that regular community-led initiatives can make a meaningful contribution to keeping public spaces and water bodies clean.

Digital Governance Gains Momentum Across Departments

Apart from environmental initiatives, the Chief Minister also shared an update on the Delhi Government’s digital transformation programme. She said more than 75 percent of official paperwork has now shifted to the e-Office platform, significantly reducing dependence on physical files.

According to the government, the digital system currently serves 177 departments with nearly 15,700 active users. The transition has helped improve administrative efficiency by speeding up file movement, reducing paperwork, and increasing transparency in government functioning. Officials believe wider adoption of digital processes will strengthen public service delivery while making governance more efficient and accountable.
