NEET – Rahul Gandhi’s Kota Visit Sparks Political Row Over Student Outreach

NEET –  A fresh political controversy has emerged ahead of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s planned visit to Rajasthan’s Kota, where he is expected to interact with students over concerns related to the NEET-UG examination paper leak issue. Senior Congress leader and former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has alleged that efforts are being made to discourage student participation in the upcoming event.

Gehlot Alleges Pressure on Local Establishments

In a statement shared on social media, Gehlot claimed that several coaching institutes, paying guest accommodations, and guest house operators in Kota were being contacted and pressured to ensure that students from their premises do not attend the programme. According to him, the growing interest among students in the event has unsettled the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Gehlot stated that many students and youth activists have shown strong enthusiasm for the interaction scheduled on June 17. He argued that attempts to limit attendance would undermine the spirit of open democratic discussion, particularly when students are seeking answers on issues affecting their academic future.

Criticism Directed at Lok Sabha Speaker

The former chief minister also referred to Kota Member of Parliament and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla while raising his concerns. Gehlot alleged that calls were being made from offices associated with local political leadership to influence accommodation providers and coaching centre management.

He said that individuals occupying important constitutional positions should remain committed to democratic values and avoid any actions that could be perceived as restricting dialogue between elected representatives and citizens. Gehlot further described the alleged interference as inappropriate and worthy of criticism.

Rahul Gandhi to Engage Students on Examination Concerns

Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Kota is part of a broader campaign being launched by the Congress party to address issues related to examinations, recruitment processes, and challenges faced by young people across the country. The programme is expected to focus on concerns raised by students following recent controversies surrounding competitive examinations.

The Congress has repeatedly criticised the central government over alleged irregularities in examinations and recruitment procedures, arguing that such incidents have affected the confidence of students and job aspirants.

Nationwide Student Conventions Planned

Congress General Secretary (Organisation) KC Venugopal announced that the Kota event will mark the beginning of a series of large student conventions planned in different cities. The initiative aims to bring together students, competitive exam candidates, educators, youth groups, and others impacted by examination-related controversies.

Following the Kota programme, similar gatherings are scheduled to take place in Allahabad on July 10, Patna on July 11, and Delhi on July 14. Party leaders say these meetings will provide a platform for participants to discuss educational challenges, recruitment concerns, and the need for greater accountability in examination systems.

Congress Intensifies Focus on Youth Issues

With these upcoming events, the Congress appears set to increase its engagement with student communities and young voters. The party has positioned examination transparency and opportunities for youth among its key issues, particularly in the wake of debates surrounding competitive tests and recruitment processes.

As political activity around the education sector continues to intensify, Rahul Gandhi’s interaction with students in Kota is expected to draw attention from both supporters and critics, while keeping the spotlight on concerns related to examination integrity and opportunities for the country’s youth.
