NEET Exam Leak – The political debate surrounding the cancellation of the NEET (UG) 2026 examination intensified on Tuesday after Aam Aadmi Party leader and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal accused the authorities of failing to prevent repeated question paper leaks. He also alleged that individuals with political influence were being protected despite multiple controversies linked to the examination system over the years.
Kejriwal made the remarks during a press briefing held shortly after the National Testing Agency (NTA) officially cancelled the NEET (UG) 2026 examination that had been conducted on May 3. The cancellation followed allegations of large-scale irregularities and suspected paper leaks. The central government has now directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to conduct a detailed inquiry into the matter.
Concerns Raised Over Repeated Exam Irregularities
During his address, Kejriwal claimed that incidents involving NEET paper leaks had surfaced several times in the past decade. According to him, strict action had not been taken against those allegedly involved in earlier cases, which he said encouraged repeated misconduct.
He described the situation as a major setback for students preparing for one of the country’s most competitive entrance examinations. The AAP national convener stated that lakhs of students dedicate years of effort and financial resources to secure admission to medical colleges, making such controversies deeply distressing for families.
Students and Families Facing Uncertainty
Expressing sympathy for affected candidates, Kejriwal said many students come from families that make significant sacrifices to support expensive coaching and preparation expenses. He noted that the cancellation had created emotional and financial pressure on aspirants who had spent months preparing for the examination.
The former Delhi Chief Minister further alleged that examination leaks could not occur without support from influential individuals within the system. He questioned the accountability of authorities responsible for conducting high-stakes national examinations and accused the government of failing to protect the interests of students.
Call for Public Protest
Kejriwal also urged students to raise their voices against the irregularities. He said public pressure was necessary to ensure accountability and transparency in the examination process. According to him, students should peacefully protest and demand stronger safeguards to prevent future paper leaks.
His comments are expected to add political momentum to the ongoing controversy, which has already triggered widespread discussion among students, parents, and education experts across the country.
Government Orders Investigation
The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test, commonly known as NEET, is conducted annually for admission to undergraduate medical courses across India. The exam is organised by the National Testing Agency and is considered one of the most important entrance tests for medical aspirants.
Following allegations of malpractice linked to this year’s examination, the NTA announced the cancellation of the test and stated that a fresh examination would be organised. Revised dates for the re-examination are expected to be announced separately after further review.
Meanwhile, the Centre has instructed the CBI to carry out a comprehensive investigation into the allegations surrounding the examination process. Officials are expected to examine the circumstances that led to the suspected leak and identify those responsible.
The controversy has once again sparked concerns over the security and credibility of large-scale competitive examinations in India, with many students now waiting for clarity regarding the next phase of the admission process.
