Mumbai Rain Alert – Red Warning Issued as Heavy Monsoon Batters Region
Mumbai Rain Alert – The India Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for Mumbai, Thane and several adjoining districts after continuous monsoon rain affected the region for the fourth straight day. Weather officials said intense rainfall is likely to continue through the weekend, prompting authorities to ask residents to avoid unnecessary travel and stay indoors where possible.

Suburban Mumbai Records Higher Rainfall
Several parts of Mumbai received more than 100 mm of rain in the 24 hours ending Saturday morning. Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation rain-gauge data showed that suburban locations experienced some of the heaviest showers.
The H-West Ward Office recorded 146.4 mm of rainfall, followed by Bandra’s Supari Tank Municipal School at 143.4 mm. Bandra’s Pali Municipal School reported 140.6 mm, while the G-South Ward Office received 140.2 mm. Other high-rainfall locations included F-North Ward Office with 132 mm, Mankhurd Fire Station with 126.8 mm and Collector Colony in Chembur with 124.2 mm.
Heavy spells since Saturday morning have caused waterlogging in low-lying and flood-prone areas. Civic teams are monitoring drainage systems, roads and vulnerable neighbourhoods as rain continues across the city.
Thane and Nearby Districts Remain Under Watch
Thane recorded around 58 mm of rainfall between Friday morning and early Saturday. Intermittent heavy showers continued in several parts of the district through the day, raising concerns about water accumulation on roads and in residential pockets.
The red alert is in effect for Mumbai and Thane on both Saturday and Sunday. Palghar and Raigad have also been placed under a high-level weather warning. In Pune and Satara, the alert mainly applies to ghat and hill regions, where intense rain can increase the risk of landslides, road disruptions and rising water levels.
Rainfall May Continue Until July 7
According to the weather department, Maharashtra is likely to witness severe monsoon activity over the weekend, with heavy rain expected to continue until July 7. Some high-risk areas may receive between 200 mm and 250 mm of rainfall during this period.
Officials have advised residents in coastal, low-lying and hilly areas to remain alert. People have been asked not to visit waterlogged locations, riversides, beaches or ghat routes unless travel is unavoidable.
Civic Agencies Put on High Alert
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, Fire Brigade and Disaster Management Department have been placed on alert to respond to emergencies. Municipal teams are tracking rainfall levels, waterlogging reports and possible disruptions to public services.
As a precaution, the BMC has restricted access to beaches and coastal stretches because of rough sea conditions and rising tides. Residents have been urged to stay away from the shoreline and avoid taking risks near water bodies.
Emergency Numbers Shared for Public Assistance
Authorities have advised people not to drive through flooded roads or attempt to walk through deep water. Residents have also been asked to secure loose objects outside homes, including outdoor furniture, signage and construction material.
