Police examine allegations of domestic abuse

Investigators identified the arrested woman as Manisha Borkar, 37, a resident originally from Kanhan. Police said she married Ganesh Borkar about 14 years ago after separating from her first husband.

Borkar had a criminal record and was known in the area for his alleged involvement in several offences, police said. During the inquiry, officers were told that he regularly quarrelled with and allegedly assaulted his wife and children over minor matters.

Manisha later moved with her children to Shyam Nagar, according to police. However, investigators said Borkar allegedly continued to trouble the family after they left the matrimonial home.

Threat mentioned during early inquiry

Police said Manisha had allegedly warned Borkar a few days before the attack that she could be responsible if he was killed. The remark later became an important part of the investigation after it was mentioned by Borkar’s mother, Sushila Borkar.

The police initially registered a murder case at Bhandewadi Police Station. Crime Branch Unit-5 also began a parallel inquiry to identify those involved in the attack and establish the motive behind it.

Attack took place near Hanuman Nagar residence

According to the police account, Borkar had visited a tea stall near the railway station and was returning home shortly after 8 pm on Thursday. Two men were allegedly waiting near Chakole’s residence in Hanuman Nagar when they confronted him.

The attackers allegedly used sharp weapons during the assault. Police said Borkar tried to escape and called out for help, but the assailants chased him. After he fell on the road, he was allegedly attacked repeatedly. He died at the scene after sustaining multiple injuries.

Questioning leads to alleged conspiracy details

During the investigation, Borkar’s mother informed officers about the alleged threat made by Manisha. Based on that statement and other information gathered during the probe, the Crime Branch detained Manisha for questioning.

Police claim that she later disclosed details of an alleged conspiracy to have her husband killed. Investigators said she named Abhijit Purushottam Sakhare, 29, Rohit Borkar of Kanhan, and a juvenile in conflict with the law as people allegedly linked to the plan.

Preliminary police inquiries indicate that the named suspects have previous criminal cases registered against them, including matters related to murder, assault, rioting and burglary. The police have not yet released details about the roles allegedly played by each accused in the attack.

Further investigation continues

The arrested accused have been handed over to Bhandewadi Police for further legal action and investigation. Police teams are searching for two or three additional suspects who are believed to be absconding.

The operation was conducted by Crime Branch Unit-5 under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Deepak Agrawal and Assistant Commissioner of Police Shivprasad Parwe. Inspector Vinayak Golhe and his team led the field investigation.
