Monsoon – Rekha Gupta Reviews Rain Preparedness During DTC Bus Inspection Across Delhi
Monsoon – Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta carried out an on-ground inspection of the city’s monsoon arrangements on Tuesday by travelling on a Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) bus. Accompanied by senior government officials, she assessed the condition of roads, drainage systems, and civic maintenance work along key stretches to evaluate the capital’s readiness for the ongoing rainy season.
Chief Minister Chooses Public Transport for Ground Assessment
The inspection began from Jan Seva Sadan, where the Chief Minister boarded a DTC bus for the field visit. The route covered the Outer Ring Road, Madhuban Chowk, and extended to the DDA Sports Complex in Sector 33, Rohini. During the journey, she observed traffic conditions, road infrastructure, and civic maintenance efforts while interacting with officials responsible for public works and urban services.
The visit was aimed at obtaining a direct understanding of conditions on the ground rather than relying only on departmental reports.
Focus on Waterlogging and Road Conditions
Throughout the inspection, Rekha Gupta paid particular attention to locations known for recurring waterlogging during heavy rainfall. She reviewed drainage channels, roadside cleanliness, and the accumulation of construction debris and garbage, which can obstruct the natural flow of rainwater.
Officials accompanying the Chief Minister were instructed to identify vulnerable locations and ensure that preventive measures remain effective throughout the monsoon season. She stressed that timely maintenance is essential to reduce inconvenience for commuters and residents.
Directions Issued to Improve Civic Infrastructure
During the review, the Chief Minister directed departments to strengthen the city’s drainage network to prevent flooding in low-lying areas. She also instructed officials to prioritise road widening projects where necessary and complete repairs on damaged roads without delay.
Special emphasis was placed on filling potholes and improving road surfaces to enhance safety for motorists and pedestrians during periods of continuous rainfall. The administration was also asked to maintain regular monitoring so that civic issues could be addressed before they escalate.
Cleanliness and Debris Removal Under Review
Apart from drainage and roads, the inspection included an assessment of sanitation along major corridors. The Chief Minister reviewed the removal of roadside waste and construction debris, noting that blocked drains and uncollected garbage can worsen waterlogging during intense rain.
Officials were directed to ensure continuous cleaning operations and maintain coordination among civic agencies responsible for sanitation, drainage, and road maintenance.
NDMC Reviews Rain Response Measures
Separately, New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) Vice Chairperson Kuljeet Singh Chahal inspected several locations identified as vulnerable to water accumulation. According to Chahal, the NDMC area did not witness any significant waterlogging despite continuous rainfall.
He stated that complaints related to rain-induced civic issues were attended to promptly, with response teams remaining active to resolve problems as they were reported. The civic body continues to monitor weather conditions and maintain readiness to respond quickly if rainfall intensifies.
Administration Continues Monsoon Monitoring
The inspections by both the Delhi Government and the NDMC reflect an ongoing effort to keep civic infrastructure functioning efficiently during the monsoon season. Authorities have indicated that field reviews, drainage maintenance, road repairs, and sanitation drives will continue as part of measures aimed at minimising disruptions caused by heavy rain across the city.
