Delhi University – Freshers Receive Warm Welcome as New Academic Session Begins Across Campuses

Delhi University –Thousands of students began their journey at Delhi University on Tuesday as the new academic session commenced, bringing together excitement, curiosity, and anticipation. The first day witnessed lively orientation activities, student interactions, and campus guidance programmes across several colleges, helping newcomers settle into university life.

Orientation Programmes Set the Tone for the New Session

Delhi University’s North Campus colleges, including Miranda House, Hansraj College, and SGTB Khalsa College, organised detailed orientation sessions to introduce first-year students to academic life. Faculty members, student representatives, and volunteers familiarised the incoming batch with classroom procedures, student support systems, campus facilities, and extracurricular opportunities available throughout the university.

Volunteers remained stationed across campuses to assist new students in locating classrooms, auditoriums, administrative offices, and orientation venues. Their efforts also helped freshers become familiar with the university environment while easing the transition into college life.

Warm Reception Creates Memorable First Impressions

Many colleges marked the arrival of freshers with traditional welcome ceremonies. Students were greeted with tilak, flower petals, and sweets as part of organised welcome initiatives conducted by different student groups. At DAV College, volunteers associated with student organisations, including the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), and other campus bodies, extended assistance to newly admitted students throughout the day.

At Miranda House, first-year student Aatrija shared that newcomers received small planters before attending the orientation programme in the college auditorium. She said the session introduced students to various committees and campus societies, with performing arts groups such as Tanz and Mridang attracting her interest the most.

Freshers Share Their Early Campus Experiences

For many students, stepping onto the university campus turned months of anticipation into reality. Aarohi, who has enrolled in the Political Science programme at Jesus and Mary College, described the experience as different from what she had imagined after watching videos and reading about college life online. According to her, walking through the campus and interacting with fellow students made the beginning of university life feel much more real and meaningful.

The first day also saw many freshers exploring college grounds, meeting society members, and learning about clubs dedicated to cultural, literary, sports, and academic activities. Student organisations actively interacted with newcomers while encouraging them to participate in campus events and extracurricular programmes.

Senior Students Welcome the Incoming Batch

Returning students also played an important role in making the transition easier for the new batch. Gul, a second-year student at Hansraj College, recalled her own first day at the university and remembered feeling uncertain despite being excited about starting college. She said volunteers had welcomed her warmly, and now she was happy to help the latest batch experience a comfortable introduction to campus life.

Across different colleges, students were seen taking photographs, exploring campus landmarks, and interacting with seniors, creating an energetic atmosphere on the opening day of the academic session.

Admission Process Continues Alongside Academic Activities

While classes and orientation programmes have started, Delhi University is continuing its undergraduate admission process through the Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS). The second round of admissions remains in progress, with colleges verifying submitted documents and processing applications for candidates who accepted newly allotted or upgraded seats.

The university had extended the deadline for candidates to accept second-round seat allocations until 11:59 pm on Monday. Colleges were allowed to verify and approve applications until 11:59 pm on Tuesday, while the final deadline for payment of admission fees has been fixed at 11:59 pm on Wednesday. Students have been advised to complete all formalities within the prescribed schedule to avoid any admission-related issues.

During the first round of admissions, Delhi University confirmed admissions for 63,756 candidates. The initial allocation list offered 93,033 seats across 221 undergraduate programmes in 67 colleges, against an overall availability of more than 71,000 seats. These allocations were prepared from over 2.08 lakh applicants who completed Phase II of the CSAS admission process by submitting their preferred colleges and courses.
