Landslide – Rescue Teams Search for Family After Mawal House Collapse
Landslide – A rescue operation was launched in Pune district’s Mawal taluka on Monday after a landslide damaged a house in Patan village, with members of a family feared to be trapped beneath the rubble. Officials said the incident occurred during the early morning hours amid heavy rain in parts of Maharashtra.

NDRF Team Sent From Pune
The District Information Office in Pune said help was sought from the National Disaster Response Force soon after authorities received information about the collapse. A 30-member team from the NDRF’s 5th Battalion was sent to the village to support the search and rescue effort.
The team left for Patan at around 5:50 am with equipment needed for debris removal and operations in difficult terrain. The site is in a remote part of Mawal, where continued rain and unstable ground conditions are expected to make the work more challenging.
Operation Led by Senior Officers
Inspector Ravinder is leading the deployed NDRF unit under the supervision of Assistant Commandant Chandraketu Sharma. The rescue group includes two senior officers along with 27 trained disaster response personnel, according to the district administration.
Rescuers are working to remove mud, stones and damaged building material carefully in an effort to reach anyone who may be inside the collapsed structure. Authorities have not confirmed the number of people believed to be trapped.
No Casualties Confirmed So Far
Officials said that while an entire family is suspected to be under the debris, there was no official confirmation of deaths or injuries at the time of the latest update. The administration said its immediate priority was to clear the affected area safely and locate the residents as quickly as possible.
Further information is expected once rescue teams are able to assess the damaged house and surrounding slope. Local officials are also monitoring conditions in the village because rain may increase the risk of further soil movement.
Rain Triggers Disruptions Across Mawal
The Patan incident came a day after another landslide disrupted travel in the Lonavala area. On Sunday, a large amount of debris fell on the road leading towards Rajmachi Fort, bringing vehicle movement to a halt.
Police and traffic officials said earth-moving machines were deployed to clear the blocked stretch. The route is used by local residents as well as visitors travelling towards the fort, and restoration work was continuing after the slide.
Red Alert Issued for Heavy Rain
The incidents followed a strong spell of rain across several parts of Maharashtra on Monday morning. The India Meteorological Department had issued a red alert for parts of the state, warning of intense rainfall and related weather risks.
For Mawal tehsil in Pune district, the weather department forecast generally cloudy conditions with moderate rain continuing until July 10. Residents in landslide-prone and low-lying areas have been advised to remain cautious during the wet spell.
Pawana River Swells Near Ravet
Heavy rain also led to a rise in the Pawana River near Ravet in Pimpri-Chinchwad, where water was seen flowing strongly. Local authorities are keeping watch on rainfall and river conditions as the monsoon system remains active.
In Pune’s Kondhwa area, light rain brought a more subdued scene, with local markets continuing to operate as usual. However, authorities have urged people across the district to follow weather advisories and avoid risky travel during periods of intense rain.
