LabourProtests – NSA Invoked Against Two After Noida Worker Violence

LabourProtests –  Authorities in Noida have invoked the National Security Act (NSA) against two individuals accused of involvement in violent demonstrations linked to labour protests that erupted in several industrial areas of the city last month.

NSA Action Taken Against Worker Group Members

According to police officials, the action has been initiated against Satyam Verma and Aakriti, who are associated with Mazdoor Bigul Dasta, an organisation that advocates for workers’ rights. Senior officers stated on Wednesday that both individuals were allegedly connected to the unrest that spread across Sector-84 and adjoining industrial pockets on April 13.

The decision to apply the NSA comes as investigators continue examining the scale of violence that disrupted normal activity in multiple industrial zones of Noida.

Wage Revision Protests Escalated Into Violence

The protests began as demonstrations by factory workers demanding higher wages and salary revisions that they claimed had remained unresolved for a long period. Thousands of employees from different manufacturing and industrial units assembled in support of the demand.

However, the situation later turned tense in areas including Phase 2 and Sector 60, where incidents of stone-pelting, vandalism, and arson were reported. Several vehicles and properties were allegedly damaged during the clashes, prompting a large police deployment to restore order.

Officials said the disturbances created panic in nearby industrial sectors and temporarily affected routine operations in some factories.

Large-Scale Demonstrations Across Industrial Areas

Police records indicate that more than 42,000 workers participated in demonstrations held at 83 separate locations across Noida during the agitation. Authorities described the scale of mobilisation as one of the largest labour-related protests witnessed in the region in recent years.

Following the violence, law enforcement agencies intensified surveillance and launched a widespread crackdown to identify those allegedly involved in damaging public and private property.

Hundreds Arrested Following Investigation

As part of the investigation, police registered seven criminal cases connected to the protests and arrested more than 300 people. Officials said several suspects were identified using video footage, local intelligence inputs, and digital evidence collected from affected areas.

Authorities have maintained that strict legal measures are being taken to prevent further disturbances and ensure public safety in industrial regions that employ a large workforce.

Meanwhile, worker representatives and labour rights activists continue to raise concerns related to wage structures and employment conditions. The incident has once again drawn attention to industrial relations and labour management issues in rapidly expanding manufacturing hubs such as Noida.

Police officials have not ruled out additional legal action if further evidence emerges during the ongoing inquiry. Security arrangements in sensitive industrial zones have also been strengthened to avoid any repeat of large-scale unrest.
