Karnataka – Woman Found Dead at Chikkaballapur Homestay as Police Probe Mystery

Karnataka – A 26-year-old physiotherapist from Bengaluru was found dead inside a private homestay near Muddenahalli in Karnataka’s Chikkaballapur district, while her boyfriend was discovered unconscious in the same room. Police have launched a detailed investigation and are examining multiple possibilities, including murder, suicide, and suspected poisoning. Authorities say the exact cause of death will only become clear after forensic analysis and the post-mortem examination are completed.

Police Await Medical and Forensic Reports

The deceased has been identified as Sai Surabhi, while her boyfriend, Mohammed Sanjeet Ali, who is originally from Kerala, remains admitted to a hospital in an unconscious condition. Senior police officials visited the homestay soon after the incident and inspected the room where the couple was staying.

According to Chikkaballapur Superintendent of Police Kushal Chowksi, investigators did not find any visible external or bleeding injuries on Surabhi’s body during the initial examination. However, several items recovered from the room, including a rope, numerous tablets, a pillow, and evidence suggesting vomiting, have become key parts of the ongoing investigation. Police said each of these findings will be scientifically examined before any conclusions are reached.

Couple Had Been Staying at Homestay for Several Days

Investigators said the couple had checked into the homestay around three days before the incident occurred. Officers are now working to reconstruct their activities and determine the sequence of events leading up to Surabhi’s death.

Police records indicate that Surabhi and Ali had been in a relationship for some time. According to investigators, Surabhi had previously informed her family of her wish to marry Ali, but the proposal was reportedly opposed. After the couple left home together, a missing person complaint had been filed. Later, Surabhi appeared before the police and stated that she was an adult capable of making her own decisions regarding marriage and personal life. She subsequently began living with Ali.

Family Raises Allegations During Investigation

Police said Surabhi’s family informed investigators that she had recently travelled to Chikkaballapur to participate in voluntary service at the SAI campus. Authorities are verifying this information with the concerned institution as part of the investigation.

Officials believe Ali may have learned about her presence in the district and booked the homestay where the two later met. Police are examining available evidence, witness statements, and digital records to establish the timeline accurately.

Meanwhile, Surabhi’s family has alleged that Ali introduced her to narcotic substances, leading to alcohol and drug dependency. They have also accused him of physically assaulting her during their relationship. Police clarified that these allegations are still under investigation and no findings have been established at this stage.

Previous NDPS Case Also Under Verification

Police sources confirmed that both Surabhi and Ali had previously been named in a case registered under the NDPS Act after narcotic substances were allegedly recovered during a party they attended. However, Superintendent Chowksi stated that the present investigation should not be viewed as a case involving criminal history and added that Ali is believed to be unemployed.

Investigators said the material recovered from the room has kept the possibility of poisoning open. Since there were no apparent injuries on the woman’s body, officials have not ruled out any scenario, including homicide, suicide, or poisoning. Medical reports and forensic evidence are expected to play a decisive role in determining what actually happened.

Boyfriend’s Statement Expected to Be Crucial

Police believe Ali’s testimony could become one of the most significant pieces of evidence once his medical condition improves. Investigators are exploring whether the woman was killed before Ali attempted suicide, whether both consumed poisonous substances voluntarily, or whether another sequence of events took place.

The case has been registered at Nandi Police Station. Forensic experts have collected evidence from the homestay, while Surabhi’s body has been sent for post-mortem examination. Officials have reiterated that no final conclusions will be drawn until scientific reports and Ali’s statement become available. The investigation remains active, with police relying primarily on medical and forensic evidence to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the woman’s death.
