Justice – Former Jail Official Marries Ex-Convict After Years of Acquaintance
Justice – A former prison official and a man once serving a life sentence in Madhya Pradesh have entered into an interfaith marriage after a relationship that reportedly developed over several years inside a central jail facility.

The couple, identified as Firoza Khatoon and Dharmendra Singh, were married on May 5 in Luvkush Nagar town of Chhatarpur district through Hindu wedding traditions. Their story has attracted widespread attention due to the unusual circumstances surrounding their relationship.
Relationship Began During Prison Duties
Dharmendra Singh, a resident of the Chandla region in Bundelkhand, was convicted in 2007 in connection with the murder of former Chandla Municipal Council vice-chairperson Krishna Dutt Dixit. Following the court’s decision, Singh was sentenced to life imprisonment and transferred to Satna Central Jail.
During the same period, Firoza Khatoon joined the prison administration as an assistant jail superintendent. She was assigned responsibilities connected with warrant management and official documentation inside the jail premises.
According to prison sources, Singh often assisted jail authorities in administrative tasks related to warrants and records. Over time, routine professional communication between the two reportedly turned into a close friendship.
Bond Strengthened Over the Years
Officials familiar with the matter said the connection between the prison officer and the inmate gradually deepened during Singh’s years in custody. The relationship reportedly continued even after Singh secured release from prison around four years ago due to good conduct during his sentence.
Following his release, the pair decided to formalize their relationship through marriage. The ceremony was conducted in accordance with Hindu customs in the presence of close associates and local attendees.
Family Opposition Marked Wedding Ceremony
Despite the marriage taking place peacefully, members of Firoza Khatoon’s family reportedly did not participate in the ceremony. Sources indicated that her relatives chose to stay away because of the interfaith nature of the union.
In the absence of her family members, local Vishwa Hindu Parishad district vice-president Raj Bahadur Mishra and his wife performed the traditional ‘kanyadan’ ritual during the wedding ceremony. Several Bajrang Dal members were also present at the event.
Local Reactions and Public Attention
The marriage has become a subject of discussion across parts of Madhya Pradesh because of the unique background of the couple. Prison officials and several former inmates who knew the pair reportedly extended their good wishes after news of the wedding emerged.
While the marriage has generated mixed reactions on social media and among local residents, no legal or administrative issues connected to the union have been reported so far. The couple is currently believed to be residing in Chhatarpur district.
Observers note that the case has highlighted how personal relationships can sometimes develop in unexpected environments, including within institutional settings such as correctional facilities.
