Court Grants Relief After Completion of Investigation

On Monday, an Additional Sessions Court in Delhi allowed regular bail to the accused couple after noting that the investigation into the matter had been completed. The decision came after the court reviewed a detailed report submitted by the investigating officer, confirming that no further inquiry was pending in the case.

The couple had earlier been on interim bail for 30 days, which had been granted in March. They were produced before the court after that period ended. The judge observed that the accused had complied with all conditions imposed during their interim relief.

Compliance With Bail Conditions Considered

During the hearing, the defence counsel informed the court that both individuals had followed every directive issued earlier. It was also stated that the couple had vacated the Malviya Nagar residence where the incident occurred and moved to a different area, reducing the likelihood of further confrontation.

The court took note of these submissions and also acknowledged that the investigating officer’s report supported the claim that the accused had adhered to all conditions set during the interim bail period.

Apology and Reputation Concerns Raised

The defence further argued that the case had significantly affected the couple’s public image. According to their lawyer, they had issued a public apology through social media platforms and had also expressed regret directly to the affected individuals in the presence of their landlord.

The argument emphasized that the accused had taken steps to address the situation and had shown willingness to resolve tensions following the incident.

Prosecution Highlights Impact on Victims

Opposing the bail plea, the prosecution highlighted the difficulties faced by the victims. It argued that the three women, originally from Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur, had to leave their residence quickly due to intense media attention and the distress caused by the situation.

The prosecution stated that the victims, being students with limited financial resources, faced additional hardship as they were forced to relocate on short notice.

Background of the Dispute

According to the prosecution’s account, the incident began as a disagreement over debris left behind during the installation of an air conditioner in the rented property. The argument reportedly escalated, during which the accused allegedly used derogatory and racially offensive language against the victims.

The case gained attention due to the nature of the allegations, raising concerns about discrimination and treatment of individuals from Northeast India in metropolitan areas.

Court Balances Factors in Decision

While granting bail, the court considered multiple factors, including the completion of the investigation, compliance with earlier bail conditions, and the changed residential status of the accused. At the same time, the court acknowledged the concerns raised by the prosecution regarding the impact on the victims.

The matter is expected to proceed further in court as legal proceedings continue, with both sides presenting their arguments during the trial stage.
