Investigation – CBI Team Begins Detailed Probe Into Bhopal Model Death Case
Investigation – Hours after formally taking charge of the investigation into the alleged dowry death of model and actor Twisha Sharma, officials from the Central Bureau of Investigation began field-level inquiries in Bhopal on Tuesday. The agency’s Special Crime Unit-III from Delhi visited multiple locations linked to the case and interacted with family members as part of the ongoing probe.

Twisha Sharma, aged 33, was reportedly found hanging at her matrimonial residence in the Katara Hills locality on the night of May 12. The case was initially registered by Bhopal Police on May 15 before being transferred to the CBI earlier this week.
CBI Examines Scene at Matrimonial Residence
A team that included two women investigators inspected the terrace area of the house where the incident allegedly took place. Officials spent considerable time examining the surroundings and studying different sections of the residence to understand the sequence of events connected to the death.
According to sources familiar with the investigation, the officers focused on gathering physical and circumstantial details from the property. The team reportedly assessed the layout of the house and reviewed possible evidence that could assist in reconstructing the events of May 12.
Twisha’s husband Samarth and her mother-in-law Giribala have both been named as accused in the suspected dowry death case now being handled by the CBI. The agency formally registered its own case on Monday evening after taking over records from the state police.
Statements Recorded From Family Members
After completing the inspection at the Katara Hills residence, the investigation team travelled nearly 25 kilometres to the 3 EME Centre of the Indian Army in Bhopal’s Bairagarh area. There, officials met Twisha’s parents and her brother, Major Harshit Sharma.
Investigators recorded statements from family members as part of the initial phase of questioning. Sources indicated that the CBI team remained at the Kurukshetra officers’ mess inside the military establishment for around two and a half hours while carrying out discussions and documentation related to the case.
The questioning of relatives is considered an important part of the investigation, especially in cases involving allegations of harassment linked to dowry demands. Officials are expected to review the statements alongside digital and forensic material already collected during the earlier police inquiry.
Police Hands Over Records and Evidence
Later in the day, the Special Investigation Team of Bhopal Police officially transferred the case diary and all related documents to the CBI. The records included forensic examination reports, post-mortem findings, witness testimonies and digital evidence gathered during the preliminary investigation.
The transfer of documents marks the formal beginning of the federal agency’s independent investigation into the matter. CBI officers are expected to closely examine the evidence before deciding on further legal and procedural steps.
Sources associated with Tuesday’s developments claimed that the agency expressed concern regarding the arrangement and sequencing of the documents provided by local police officials. It is also believed that investigators pointed out certain procedural shortcomings noticed during the earlier inquiry process.
Further Legal Action May Follow
Officials have not yet made any public statement regarding possible arrests or custodial questioning. However, legal sources said that if the CBI decides to seek custody of Samarth for interrogation, the agency will need to approach the designated special CBI court with a formal application.
The investigation continues as authorities examine forensic findings, witness accounts and digital records connected to the case. The death of Twisha Sharma has drawn significant attention in Madhya Pradesh, with both investigative agencies and family members seeking clarity regarding the circumstances surrounding the incident.
