Infrastructure – Delhi CM Highlights India’s Expanding Transport and Digital Landscape
Infrastructure – Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Friday underscored the remarkable progress made in India’s transport infrastructure and technology sector, pointing to the rapid expansion of metro rail services, improved air connectivity, and the country’s growing influence in the digital space. Speaking at a public event, she said these developments have significantly improved accessibility and opportunities for citizens across the nation.

Metro Network Witnesses Major Expansion
Addressing the gathering, Gupta noted that India’s metro rail system has experienced substantial growth over the years. She said a network that once covered a relatively limited area has now evolved into an extensive transportation system connecting several major cities.
According to the Chief Minister, the metro network has grown from 248 kilometres to more than 1,095 kilometres and now serves 26 cities across the country. She said the expansion reflects the government’s focus on strengthening urban mobility and providing efficient public transport solutions for millions of commuters.
Air Travel Becomes More Accessible
Gupta also highlighted the transformation of the aviation sector, crediting government initiatives for making air travel accessible to a wider section of society. Referring to the UDAN programme, she said the scheme has enabled many first-time travellers to fly, turning what was once considered a distant aspiration into a practical reality.
She further stated that India’s aviation infrastructure has expanded significantly, with more than 164 airports currently operational nationwide. The Chief Minister added that India has established itself as the world’s third-largest domestic aviation market, reflecting the increasing demand for air travel and improved regional connectivity.
Digital India Receives Global Recognition
Speaking about technological advancements, Gupta said India’s digital ecosystem has earned international recognition for its scale and effectiveness. She described the Digital India initiative as an example of how technology can be used to improve governance, service delivery, and public access to information.
According to her, the country’s digital transformation has positioned India as a model for several nations looking to strengthen their own technology-driven development strategies.
Tribute Paid to Victims of Recent Tragedies
Separately, the Chief Minister attended a solemn programme at the Delhi Secretariat to honour those who lost their lives in the recent fire incident in Hauz Rani, Malviya Nagar, and the building collapse in Saidulajab, Saket.
