Widespread Heatwave Across Districts

Officials noted that the impact of the heatwave was not limited to a few regions but extended across a wide geographical area. Several districts reported temperatures well above normal levels, creating challenging conditions for residents, especially those working outdoors. The sustained high temperatures have also raised concerns about health risks, including dehydration and heat-related illnesses.

Among other areas, Gudur in Nellore recorded 45.5°C, while Peddaparupudi in Krishna district and Torragudipadu in NTR district saw temperatures reach 45.1°C. Addanki in Prakasam touched 44.6°C, and several other locations, including Allipalli, Venkatagiri, and Chebrolu, reported temperatures above 44°C. These figures highlight the widespread severity of the current heatwave gripping the State.

Forecast Indicates Hot Winds and Localised Storms

Weather officials have warned that the heat is expected to persist into Saturday, with hot winds likely to affect at least 64 mandals. Palnadu district alone is expected to see significant impact in 19 mandals, followed by Manyam, Vizianagaram, and Prakasam districts. Other areas, including Tirupati, Nellore, and Polavaram, are also likely to experience strong hot winds.

However, alongside the extreme heat, there is also a possibility of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning in certain areas. These weather changes are expected to occur sporadically, bringing brief but potentially intense conditions.

Weather System Bringing Possible Relief

Meteorological observations indicate the presence of a trough stretching from South Odisha through Telangana and Andhra Pradesh down to Tamil Nadu and the Gulf of Mannar. This system is expected to influence weather patterns over the coming days.

As a result, light to moderate rainfall, along with lightning activity, is forecast in districts such as Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Manyam, Alluri, Polavaram, Visakhapatnam, Chittoor, and Tirupati. These showers may provide temporary relief from the ongoing heatwave conditions.

Slight Drop in Temperatures Expected

Authorities have suggested that weather conditions may begin to improve slightly from Sunday onwards. Cloud cover, gusty winds, and scattered rainfall are likely to contribute to a gradual reduction in daytime temperatures. While the relief may not be immediate or uniform across all regions, it is expected to ease the intensity of the current heatwave.

Advisory Issued for Farmers and Workers

In light of the prevailing weather conditions, officials have issued safety advisories, particularly for farmers and agricultural workers who spend long hours outdoors. They have been urged to take precautions during peak heat hours and stay hydrated.

Special warnings have also been issued regarding thunderstorms. People working in open fields, including farmers and cattle herders, have been advised not to take shelter under trees during lightning activity, as it significantly increases the risk of accidents.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely and have urged residents to stay updated with official weather alerts. With both extreme heat and sudden weather changes expected, preparedness remains key to minimizing risks.
