Governance – PM Modi Marks Historic Milestone as BJP Celebrates 12 Years in Office
Governance – Prime Minister Narendra Modi completes a landmark period in office as political leaders and allies highlight governance achievements, economic progress, and major policy decisions over the past twelve years.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) marked a significant political milestone in New Delhi on Wednesday as Prime Minister Narendra Modi completed 12 years at the helm of the Union government. Celebratory banners appeared across the national capital while leaders from the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), along with public figures from different sectors, extended their congratulations to the Prime Minister.
Record-Breaking Tenure in Indian Politics
With 4,399 consecutive days in office, Narendra Modi has become the longest-serving elected Prime Minister in independent India’s history. The achievement places him ahead of India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, who served 4,398 uninterrupted days after the country’s first general election. The milestone has drawn widespread attention across political circles and among supporters of the ruling alliance.
Leaders Extend Congratulations
Senior BJP leader and former Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa joined several NDA leaders in congratulating the Prime Minister. In a message shared on social media, Yediyurappa described the occasion as an important chapter in India’s democratic journey and wished Modi continued success in leading the nation in the years ahead.
He also released an open letter highlighting what he described as major accomplishments during the NDA government’s tenure. According to Yediyurappa, the Prime Minister’s leadership has received repeated public endorsement through victories in the 2014, 2019, and 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Economic Transformation Highlighted
In his letter, Yediyurappa pointed to India’s economic progress over the past decade. He noted that India has moved from being the world’s 11th-largest economy in 2014 to becoming the fourth-largest economy globally. He credited policy reforms, infrastructure development, and investment-friendly measures for helping accelerate economic growth and improve India’s standing on the international stage.
The former chief minister also stated that administrative reforms have encouraged business activity and strengthened investor confidence, describing the period as one of notable economic advancement for the country.
Welfare Programmes Cited as Key Achievements
The BJP veteran further highlighted several flagship welfare programmes introduced during the NDA government’s tenure. Among them were the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, which expanded access to clean cooking fuel for millions of households, and the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, which brought large sections of the population into the formal banking system.
According to the letter, these initiatives played an important role in improving financial inclusion and enhancing the quality of life for beneficiaries across urban and rural regions.
Article 370 Decision Recalled
Yediyurappa also referred to the government’s decision to revoke Article 370 in August 2019, which ended the special constitutional status previously granted to Jammu and Kashmir. He described the move as one of the most significant political decisions taken during the Modi administration and noted its longstanding importance within the BJP’s ideological framework.
NDA Meeting Scheduled at Bharat Mandapam
Meanwhile, the NDA is set to hold a major meeting at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. Chief Ministers, Deputy Chief Ministers, and senior representatives from all 22 NDA-governed states and union territories are expected to participate in the gathering.
Prime Minister Modi will chair the meeting, which will also be attended by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, and several senior Union Ministers.
Agenda Focused on Development and Future Planning
Sources indicated that the meeting agenda includes a review of flagship welfare schemes, infrastructure projects, and efforts aimed at ensuring government benefits reach citizens at the grassroots level. Discussions are also expected on the government’s long-term Viksit Bharat vision for 2047 and recent developments in West Asia.
The conclave comes at a symbolic moment for the ruling coalition as it reflects on twelve years of governance and outlines priorities for the years ahead.
