Governance – Andhra Pradesh Plans Administrative Overhaul to Strengthen Public Services

Governance –Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has outlined a broad plan to modernize government administration by promoting technology-driven governance, improving accountability, and ensuring citizen-focused service delivery across departments.

Andhra governance public service reforms

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday directed officials to initiate comprehensive administrative reforms aimed at making government services more efficient and transparent. During a review meeting held at the Real Time Governance Society (RTGS) Centre in the State Secretariat, he instructed senior officials to prepare a fresh framework for government business rules through a dedicated committee. The proposed changes are intended to simplify administrative processes, strengthen governance, and improve the quality of services available to the public.

Focus on Efficient and Citizen-Centric Governance

Naidu stressed that governance should move beyond routine administration and become more proactive, technology-enabled, and results-oriented. He said senior officers must provide effective leadership to ensure that welfare programmes and government initiatives reach every eligible beneficiary without unnecessary delays. According to the Chief Minister, administrative decisions should directly support the government’s development goals while delivering measurable improvements in public services.

He also emphasized that technology should play a larger role in monitoring performance, tracking service delivery, and improving communication between citizens and government departments. The objective, he noted, is to create a governance model that responds quickly to public needs and maintains high standards of accountability.

Departmental Performance Reviewed

The review covered the functioning of several major departments, including Endowments, Roads and Buildings, Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC), Transport, Fire Services, and Agriculture. Officials presented updates on citizen services and public satisfaction levels, allowing the government to assess the effectiveness of existing systems.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister instructed the Endowments Department to improve the quality of temple prasadam and take additional measures to provide a better spiritual experience for devotees visiting temples across the state.

Major Temples Seen as Tourism and Economic Centres

Naidu observed that Andhra Pradesh’s 21 prominent temples have considerable potential to contribute to tourism and regional economic development. He said these religious destinations should be developed through long-term planning that supports tourism infrastructure, local businesses, and employment opportunities.

According to him, encouraging commercial activity around major temple centres while preserving their religious significance can generate sustainable economic benefits for surrounding communities. He asked officials to prepare strategies that balance heritage conservation with tourism growth.

Public Feedback and Accountability Prioritized

The Chief Minister also called for adopting crowd-sourcing methods to gather public feedback and identify grievances more effectively. He instructed officials to ensure that every complaint submitted by citizens receives a timely and appropriate response.

Highlighting the importance of accountability, Naidu warned that negligence at the grassroots level could damage the government’s credibility. He urged officials across departments to maintain high professional standards and remain responsible for delivering quality services to the public.

In addition, he directed the Fire Services Department to improve operational standards and strengthen emergency response capabilities across the state.

Urea Supply Monitoring for Farmers

Reviewing the availability of urea for the agricultural sector, the Chief Minister instructed officials to launch awareness campaigns through farmers’ associations and Rythu Seva Kendras (RSKs). The initiative aims to ensure that farmers receive timely access to the fertilizer while discouraging misuse and unnecessary stockpiling.

He said coordinated efforts involving local agricultural institutions would help maintain adequate supplies during the farming season and support the needs of cultivators across Andhra Pradesh.
