Residential Areas Hit by Sudden Flooding

According to officials, intense rainfall led to flash floods near the North Eastern Electric Power Corporation (Neepco) project colony at Poosa under the Yazali circle. The situation worsened after an under-construction retaining wall gave way, allowing large volumes of water to rush into nearby residential localities.

Initial assessments indicated that at least 18 housing units sustained damage as floodwaters entered homes and surrounding properties. Local authorities are continuing inspections to determine the full extent of the destruction.

Three People Reported Missing

State Disaster Management Secretary Dani Sulu said three individuals were reported missing in the aftermath of the flooding. Search operations were launched immediately after the incident, with emergency personnel working across affected locations to trace the missing residents.

District officials, including the additional deputy commissioner, deputy superintendent of police and circle officer, were directed to reach the site and oversee rescue and relief measures. Their responsibilities include coordinating emergency teams and assessing the impact on local communities.

Rescue Agencies Mobilised

A team from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) was deployed to the flood-hit area, while the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) was placed on alert and dispatched to support ongoing operations. Authorities also mobilised reserve personnel and vehicles available within the Yazali region.

In addition, retired armed forces personnel were called upon to assist in emergency response efforts as the administration worked to strengthen rescue capabilities on the ground.

Precautionary Measures at Ranganadi Dam

As a safety measure, Neepco began releasing water from the Ranganadi dam. Officials stated that electricity generation at the project was temporarily suspended to reduce operational risks during the severe weather conditions.

Authorities are closely monitoring water levels and weather developments while coordinating with disaster management teams to ensure public safety.

Landslides Block Highway Connectivity

The prolonged spell of rain also affected transportation networks in the district. Multiple sections of the national highway near Potin and Hoj were blocked after landslides deposited large amounts of debris onto the roadway.

The disruption stranded several travellers and temporarily halted vehicle movement. Machinery and restoration resources were moved to affected locations, and highway contractors were instructed to clear the debris and restore connectivity as quickly as possible.

Damage Assessment Continues

Officials said search, rescue and assessment work remains underway. Since some areas are still being evaluated, the total scale of losses has not yet been determined.

Arunachal Pradesh has experienced persistent heavy rainfall over recent days, leading to flash floods, landslips and infrastructure damage in several districts. Disaster management authorities have advised residents, particularly those living near rivers and vulnerable locations, to remain vigilant and avoid non-essential travel until weather conditions improve.
