FireSafety – Delhi Hotel Blaze Claims Lives as Dramatic Escapes Unfold
FireSafety – A devastating fire at a bed-and-breakfast property in South Delhi’s Malviya Nagar triggered scenes of panic and rescue efforts, leaving at least 21 people dead and several others injured. The incident occurred at the Flourish Stay hotel, where guests and staff were caught inside as flames and dense smoke rapidly spread through the building.

Desperate Escape Amid Growing Chaos
One of the most dramatic moments during the emergency involved a woman who leapt from the third floor while holding her child. Witnesses reported that local residents had placed mattresses on the road below in an effort to cushion potential falls and help those trapped inside.
According to eyewitness accounts, the woman landed on one of the mattresses along with her child. Both survived the fall, although the mother appeared to suffer injuries. She was quickly taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment, while the child escaped without serious harm.
Residents Join Rescue Efforts
Before emergency personnel fully reached the scene, local residents stepped forward to assist those trapped inside the burning structure. People living and working nearby responded immediately after noticing the fire and hearing cries for help from the building.
Several mattress shop owners and community members brought mattresses onto the street and positioned them beneath windows where occupants were attempting to escape. Their actions are believed to have helped reduce injuries for some of those forced to jump from upper floors.
Smoke and Flames Trap Occupants
As the fire intensified, thick smoke engulfed large sections of the hotel, making evacuation increasingly difficult. Witnesses described seeing individuals breaking window panes to access fresh air and signal for assistance.
Many occupants reportedly gathered near windows and balconies while waiting for rescuers to reach them. Videos and photographs from the scene showed emergency teams working under challenging conditions as smoke continued to pour from the building.
Casualties Include Foreign Nationals
Officials confirmed that several of the victims were foreign nationals staying at the property. Rescue operations continued for hours as teams searched different parts of the building and assisted those who survived the blaze.
Authorities have indicated that the number of fatalities could increase because several injured individuals remain in critical condition at hospitals. Medical teams are continuing to monitor and treat those affected by the incident.
Investigation Underway
More than a hundred people have been rescued so far, according to officials involved in the operation. Emergency responders worked through the aftermath to ensure that all occupants were accounted for and that the site was secured.
The exact cause of the fire has not yet been determined. Authorities have launched an investigation to establish how the blaze started and whether any safety violations or other factors contributed to the tragedy. Findings from the inquiry are expected to provide greater clarity on the circumstances that led to one of the city’s deadliest recent hotel fire incidents.
