Recruitment – Delhi Police Breaks Examination Cheating Network, Seven Arrested

Recruitment –Delhi Police have uncovered a technology-assisted racket allegedly helping candidates receive answers during recruitment examinations.

The Delhi Police have arrested seven people in connection with an alleged government recruitment examination cheating network, including the suspected mastermind, who is employed as a fireman with the Chandigarh Fire Department. Police said the group used customised electronic equipment to help candidates communicate with people outside examination centres and obtain answers during tests.

Electronic Devices Recovered From Candidates

According to police, the accused were using modified mobile phones, Bluetooth-enabled equipment, SIM cards, tablets and tiny wireless earbuds as part of the operation. Investigators said the arrangement was designed to allow questions from examination halls to be transmitted outside, with answers allegedly generated or assisted through artificial intelligence tools such as ChatGPT and then relayed back to candidates.

The investigation began after Central Sanskrit University submitted a complaint on July 26 concerning suspected unfair practices during a Lower Division Clerk recruitment examination. The test was conducted at a Kendriya Vidyalaya in Janakpuri, Delhi.

Examination Centre Checks Lead To Arrests

During checking at the examination venue, officials found a customised mobile phone in the possession of a woman candidate. Another candidate, identified as Hemant, was allegedly carrying a Bluetooth device connected to a SIM card along with nano earbuds.

A police case was subsequently registered, and both candidates were taken into custody. During questioning, Hemant allegedly told investigators that his brother, Rinku, had arranged the communication equipment and SIM card through a man named Virender.

Police said the arrangement had allegedly been made for Rs 12 lakh, with the intention of enabling Hemant to receive answers from outside the examination centre. Following the information provided during interrogation, investigators arrested both Rinku and Virender.

Woman Candidate Reveals Another Link

The investigation also progressed after questioning the woman candidate. Police said she disclosed that her friend Sanni had supplied her with a customised mobile phone, Bluetooth equipment, SIM card and nano earbuds.

The alleged arrangement was reportedly made for Rs 10 lakh. Investigators then arrested Sanni, who allegedly told police about another person, identified as Deepak, and his role in the network.

According to police, Sanni and Deepak had reached an agreement involving Rs 8 lakh. Investigators subsequently used technical surveillance and analysis of social media activity to trace Deepak and take him into custody.

Suspected Mastermind Arrested In Haryana

During questioning, Deepak allegedly named Sonu Maan as the person directing the operation. Police identified Maan as the suspected mastermind and said he was arrested from Charkhi Dadri in Haryana while allegedly attempting to facilitate cheating in another government recruitment examination.

The police said several items were recovered from Maan, including a tablet associated with a foreign WhatsApp account, a customised mobile phone, three Bluetooth devices, four nano earbuds and other electronic equipment and documents.

Investigators are examining the seized devices and communication records to determine the full extent of the alleged network and identify whether additional people were involved.

All Seven Accused From Haryana

Police identified the arrested individuals as Hemant, 23; Rinku, 30; Virender, 38; a 24-year-old woman candidate; Sanni, 30; Deepak, 26; and Sonu Kumar alias Sonu Maan, 31.

All seven accused are residents of Haryana, according to the Delhi Police. The investigation remains focused on establishing the complete chain through which examination questions were allegedly transmitted and answers supplied during recruitment tests.
