FilmPolicy – Delhi Film Shoots Resume as Air Quality Improves
FilmPolicy – Film production activity is gradually returning to the national capital after a period of disruption caused by hazardous pollution levels. With air quality showing measurable improvement, authorities have begun receiving fresh applications for shooting permissions under the Delhi Film Policy.

Applications Rise After December Lull
Officials in the tourism department confirmed that five proposals have been submitted for film shoots scheduled in January and February. This marks a clear shift from December, when not a single application was filed due to air pollution being classified in the “severe” category. Between October and November, only three applications were recorded, while earlier months had seen close to 15 proposals.
The recent improvement in air conditions appears to have restored confidence among production houses that had postponed their plans. Industry representatives had previously cited health concerns and logistical challenges as key reasons for deferring shoots in the capital.
Major Production Secures Approval
Among the projects cleared for filming is Naagzilla, starring Kartik Aaryan and Shreelila. The production has been granted permission to shoot at prominent city landmarks such as Connaught Place, select sections of the Delhi Metro Blue Line, Paharganj, and areas near Laxmi Nagar. These locations are considered visually distinctive and commercially attractive for filmmakers aiming to capture the character of the capital.
Officials noted that other applications also include proposals to film at Connaught Place, Chandni Chowk and several metro stations across the city. Such sites remain popular for their heritage value and urban appeal.
Delhi to Host Dedicated Film Festival
In addition to facilitating shoots, the city is preparing to host its own film festival on March 25. Authorities believe the event will serve as a platform to showcase Delhi as a filmmaking destination and encourage further engagement with producers, directors and creative professionals.
The festival is expected to complement ongoing efforts to position the capital as a competitive alternative to other Indian film hubs. Officials see it as part of a broader strategy to integrate tourism promotion with the entertainment sector.
Policy Framework and Industry Outreach
The Delhi Film Policy, introduced in 2022, was designed to simplify procedures for filmmakers seeking permissions. It provides a single-window clearance system, with approvals promised within 15 days. The Delhi Tourism and Transport Development Corporation functions as the nodal agency overseeing the process.
To expand awareness about the policy, the corporation has actively participated in both domestic and international film industry gatherings, including the Berlin Film Festival and WAVES. Through these engagements, officials aim to highlight the logistical support and infrastructure available in the capital.
Budget Allocation and Future Expectations
Last year, the Delhi government allocated Rs 3.01 crore for implementing and promoting the film policy. The funding is intended to streamline administrative processes and enhance outreach efforts.
Authorities are optimistic about the coming months. More than 20 applications are expected to be processed through the e-film clearance portal this year, reflecting renewed interest from filmmakers. While environmental conditions remain a factor to monitor, officials say current trends indicate a steady revival of on-location shoots in the city.
For production houses that view Delhi as a backdrop rich in history and urban vibrancy, the improving air quality and streamlined approval process signal a return to opportunity after a challenging winter season.
