Examination – FTII Orders Nationwide Retest After Delhi Centre Disruption
Examination – The Film and Television Institute of India has decided to conduct a fresh entrance examination across the country after an incident at a Delhi test centre raised concerns about the integrity of the process.

Decision Taken After Internal Review
The Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) announced on Friday that it would hold a nationwide re-examination for all candidates who appeared for its recent entrance test. The decision follows a detailed review conducted by a committee set up to examine disruptions reported at a Delhi examination centre on April 26.
According to the institute, the committee’s findings highlighted procedural lapses and disruptions significant enough to affect confidence in the fairness of the test. To ensure that all candidates are evaluated under equal conditions, FTII opted for a complete retest rather than limiting corrective measures to a single centre.
Incident at Delhi Centre Raised Concerns
The issue originated at one of the designated centres in Delhi, where delays in distributing question papers caused confusion among candidates. Reports indicate that tensions escalated when a group of candidates allegedly entered a restricted strong room area, leading to disorder and confrontation with staff members.
Due to the situation, authorities cancelled the examination for candidates assigned to that specific building. The disruption not only affected the scheduled test but also raised broader concerns about exam management and security protocols.
Second Shift Also Cancelled
Following the initial disruption, an emergency meeting was held involving the examination agency and officials managing the centre. While police personnel and an observer appointed by FTII were present to monitor the situation, concerns continued into the second shift of the exam.
Candidates appearing in the later session reportedly expressed dissatisfaction over the circumstances, prompting the observer to recommend cancelling the second shift as well in the same building. This compounded the impact of the incident and strengthened the case for a comprehensive response.
Institute Cites Fairness and Credibility
In its official statement, FTII explained that the decision to conduct a nationwide retest was guided by the need to uphold transparency and maintain trust in the examination system. The institute acknowledged that even though the disruption occurred at a single location, it had wider implications for the perceived credibility of the entire process.
Officials noted that “operational deficiencies” identified during the review could not be overlooked. Conducting a fresh examination for all candidates was considered the most appropriate step to eliminate any doubts regarding fairness.
No Need for Fresh Applications
FTII clarified that candidates who had already registered for the entrance examination would not need to apply again. Their existing application details would remain valid for the re-examination process.
The institute also stated that a revised schedule would be released in due course. New admit cards will be issued through the official website at least one month prior to the examination date, giving candidates adequate time to prepare.
Assurance to Candidates
Expressing regret over the inconvenience caused, FTII assured candidates that steps are being taken to ensure a smooth and secure conduct of the retest. The institute emphasized its commitment to maintaining a fair and transparent selection process.
FTII, which operates under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, is one of India’s premier film education institutions. Located in Pune on the premises of the historic Prabhat Film Company, it attracts aspiring filmmakers and media professionals from across the country each year.
The decision to restart the examination process underscores the institute’s focus on maintaining credibility, even at the cost of logistical challenges.
