The accused, identified as 20-year-old Tuntun, also known as Titu, was taken into custody from Bihar’s Samastipur district. According to police officials, he originally belongs to Saharsa district and had been living in the Yamuna Khadar area of Delhi before leaving the city after the incident.

Fatal Collision Near Parliament Street

The accident took place during the night between April 27 and April 28 near the Mahadev Road T-point in the Parliament Street locality. Investigators said the victims were travelling on a motorcycle when a speeding truck allegedly struck them from behind.

The two victims were identified as Yagya Bhatia, 20, and his 14-year-old cousin Abhav Bhatia. Both were residents of Ashok Nagar in Delhi.

Police stated that the truck driver fled immediately after the collision, leaving the victims critically injured on the road. A criminal case was later registered at Parliament Street police station, and multiple teams were assigned to trace the vehicle and its driver.

CCTV Footage Helped Police Track Vehicle

Officials involved in the investigation said surveillance footage from nearby locations played a major role in identifying the truck linked to the crash. Police teams also relied on technical evidence, financial transaction details, and information gathered from local sources to establish the accused’s movements after the incident.

A senior officer said the truck was eventually located and seized as part of the probe. Further examination of surveillance records and intelligence inputs helped investigators confirm the identity of the suspect before launching a search operation outside Delhi.

The accused was arrested on Monday from Samastipur after police tracked his location. Authorities confirmed that he is being presented before the court for legal proceedings while the investigation continues.

Cousins Were Returning After IPL Match

Family members told police that the cousins had gone to watch the Indian Premier League match between Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bengaluru earlier that evening.

Before the accident, Abhav reportedly informed his father over the phone that they would reach home within about thirty minutes. However, tragedy struck while they were travelling back through central Delhi late at night.

According to eyewitnesses, the collision was extremely severe, leaving both boys critically injured at the scene. Residents nearby quickly contacted emergency services and helped move the victims to a hospital.

Despite efforts by doctors, both cousins later died from their injuries.

Growing Concern Over Night-Time Road Safety

The incident has once again drawn attention to road safety issues in Delhi, particularly involving heavy vehicles moving through busy stretches during late-night hours. Police officials said further investigation is underway to determine the exact speed of the truck and whether any traffic violations were committed before the crash.

Authorities are also reviewing additional evidence connected to the vehicle’s route and the actions of the accused after fleeing the scene.

The deaths of the two cousins have triggered grief in their neighbourhood, with residents demanding stricter enforcement against reckless driving and stronger monitoring of commercial vehicles operating at night.

Delhi Police said legal proceedings against the accused will continue in accordance with the findings of the ongoing investigation.
