Elections – Voter Turnout Rises as Leaders Express Confidence in Tamil Nadu Polls
Elections – Voting for the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections progressed steadily on Thursday, with prominent political leaders casting their ballots and expressing optimism about the outcome.

Strong Early Turnout Across Constituencies
Polling began early in the morning across Tamil Nadu, drawing steady participation from voters. Long queues were seen outside several polling stations, reflecting public enthusiasm for the democratic process. By 9 am, the state recorded a voter turnout of 17.69 percent, with Tiruppur district leading at 20.38 percent. Erode followed with 19.55 percent, while Chennai registered a turnout of 16.51 percent.
Election officials reported that voting arrangements were smooth and conducted under tight security. Polling is scheduled to continue until 6 pm, covering all 234 Assembly constituencies in the state.
Tiruchi Siva Voices Confidence After Casting Vote
Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) leader and Member of Parliament Tiruchi Siva cast his vote at a polling station in the Tiruchirappalli West constituency. Speaking to reporters afterward, he noted the encouraging turnout and the orderly conduct of the election.
He highlighted that voters from all walks of life stood together in queues, emphasizing equality in the democratic process. According to him, the participation reflected a healthy democratic environment. He also expressed strong confidence that the DMK and its alliance would secure victory, citing public support and trust built over the past five years.
Siva dismissed speculation about a division in youth votes, calling such claims unfounded. He maintained that support for his party remains unified and strengthened by governance initiatives and campaign efforts.
O Panneerselvam Casts Vote Amid Political Shift
Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O Panneerselvam also exercised his franchise along with his family members in the Bodinayakkanur constituency. He voted at a polling station in Periyakulam, where arrangements were reported to be well-managed.
Panneerselvam’s participation comes after a notable political shift, as he is now contesting as a DMK candidate despite his long-standing association with the AIADMK. His candidacy has drawn attention in this election, particularly in his home region.
Key Alliances Face Off in Crucial Election
The Tamil Nadu Assembly elections are witnessing a direct contest between two major alliances. The DMK-led front includes parties such as the Indian National Congress, DMDK, and VCK. On the other side, the AIADMK leads the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), supported by the BJP and PMK.
The DMK is relying on its governance record and welfare initiatives to retain power, while the AIADMK-led alliance is aiming to regain political ground. Both sides have conducted extensive campaigns across the state, focusing on development, welfare schemes, and leadership credibility.
Simultaneous Polling in West Bengal
Polling is also underway in West Bengal as part of the first phase of its Assembly elections. Unlike Tamil Nadu’s single-phase election, West Bengal will conduct voting in multiple phases, with the second phase scheduled for April 29.
Authorities have ensured strict security measures in both states to facilitate smooth voting. The counting of votes for both Tamil Nadu and West Bengal elections is set to take place on May 4.
Smooth Conduct Highlights Democratic Engagement
Overall, the polling process in Tamil Nadu has been reported as peaceful and well-organized. Election officials and security personnel have been deployed across polling stations to manage crowds and maintain order.
The visible enthusiasm among voters, combined with active participation from political leaders, underscores the significance of this election. As the day progresses, turnout figures are expected to rise further, offering a clearer picture of voter engagement in this key electoral exercise.
