Elections – The Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has taken an early lead in Assam as vote counting for the Assembly elections progresses, according to initial trends released by the Election Commission.

Assam election nda early lead

Early Trends Show NDA Crossing Majority Mark

Preliminary figures indicate that the NDA has moved past the halfway mark, leading in 87 constituencies. This early advantage suggests a strong performance by the ruling alliance as counting continues across multiple centers in the state. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) itself is ahead in 71 seats, forming the backbone of the alliance’s current lead.

Among its partners, the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) is leading in nine constituencies, while the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) has secured leads in seven seats. These numbers collectively place the NDA in a comfortable position at this stage of the counting process.

Opposition Trails but Maintains Watchful Approach

On the other side, the Congress party is currently trailing with leads in 21 seats. Its allies have made limited gains, with the Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) leading in one constituency. Other parties, including the Communist Party of India (Marxist), Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), and the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), are each ahead in one seat based on early data.

Despite the current trends, Congress leaders remain cautious and emphasize that the counting process is still ongoing. Party officials have indicated that they are closely monitoring each round of vote counting and are prepared to respond to any discrepancies if they arise.

NDA Expresses Confidence in Final Outcome

Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal expressed optimism regarding the outcome, stating that the results align with the alliance’s expectations. He reiterated the NDA’s confidence in forming the government once again, pointing to their strong performance in the early rounds of counting. According to him, the alliance had anticipated a result approaching the 100-seat mark with the support of its partners.

Congress Deploys Observers Across Counting Centres

Assam Congress President Gaurav Gogoi highlighted the party’s efforts to ensure transparency during the counting process. He noted that observers have been stationed across the state to maintain coordination with the All India Congress Committee (AICC). These teams are tasked with reporting any irregularities directly to the Election Commission of India.

Gogoi stated that the party is maintaining communication with its workers at every counting centre and is reviewing feedback from each round. He added that the Congress remains hopeful about the final outcome and is committed to closely tracking the process until the last vote is counted.

Monitoring Mechanisms and Precautionary Measures

The Congress has also established monitoring units at district and zonal levels to oversee the counting process. Party representatives have been instructed to verify the handling and transportation of electronic voting machines (EVMs), ensuring that no procedural lapses occur.

According to Gogoi, the party has prepared extensively for this phase, deploying a network of workers and observers to safeguard electoral integrity. He emphasized that even though only the initial rounds have been completed, the party is vigilant and ready to act if any concerns are identified.

Counting Continues as Final Picture Awaits

As counting progresses, the political landscape in Assam remains dynamic. While the NDA currently holds a significant lead, the final outcome will depend on subsequent rounds and the consolidation of votes across constituencies.

Election officials continue to oversee the process, ensuring adherence to guidelines and transparency at every stage. With several rounds still to be completed, both ruling and opposition parties are closely watching developments as the state awaits the final verdict.
