Polling Begins Across Multiple Districts

Voting started at 7 a.m. in 152 Assembly constituencies spread across 16 districts, marking the opening phase of a significant two-part electoral exercise in the state. Authorities reported an orderly start, with voters arriving at polling stations in steady numbers during the early hours.

The elections are being closely watched, as they are expected to shape the political direction of West Bengal in the coming years. Security arrangements were put in place across sensitive areas to ensure a smooth voting process.

Kabir Calls for Unity and Inclusive Development

After casting his vote, Humayun Kabir addressed reporters and emphasized the importance of social harmony. He stated that West Bengal must continue to foster peaceful coexistence among communities and ensure that development benefits all sections of society.

Kabir stressed that political activities should not disrupt public life or create divisions. According to him, governance should focus on progress without being overshadowed by violence or intimidation.

Contesting from Two Key Constituencies

Kabir, who previously had ties with the Trinamool Congress, is contesting the current elections from two constituencies — Rejinagar and Naoda. This marks a notable shift in his political journey, as he now leads his own party into the electoral arena.

He noted that this election holds special significance for him, as it is the first time his party is directly participating in the Assembly polls under his leadership.

Allegations of Political Influence

During his interaction with the media, Kabir also raised concerns about alleged attempts to influence voters and party members. He claimed that financial inducements offered by political rivals had impacted his party’s ability to contest across a larger number of seats.

According to him, the party had initially planned to field candidates in more constituencies but eventually limited its participation. Despite these challenges, Kabir expressed confidence in the democratic process and the role of voters in determining the outcome.

Emphasis on Democratic Rights

Kabir reiterated that voting is a fundamental right guaranteed by the Constitution and encouraged citizens to actively participate in the electoral process. He highlighted his long association with elections, adding that this experience has deepened his understanding of grassroots politics.

He described the current election as an important opportunity for people to voice their preferences and influence governance through democratic means.

Peaceful Atmosphere Reported

Commenting on the situation at polling booths, Kabir observed that the process appeared calm and well-managed during the initial hours. He mentioned that there were no major disruptions and that both voters and polling agents were able to carry out their roles without difficulty.

Officials also indicated that election arrangements were functioning smoothly, with necessary measures in place to handle any unforeseen issues.

Background and Political Journey

Humayun Kabir had previously won the 2021 Assembly elections from the Bharatpur constituency in Murshidabad district as a candidate of the Trinamool Congress. His shift to forming and leading the Janata Unnayan Party marks a new chapter in his political career.

Over time, he has remained an active figure in regional politics, often making statements on issues related to development and community relations.

As the first phase of polling continues, attention will now turn to voter turnout figures and the overall conduct of the elections, which are expected to set the tone for the remaining phases.
