ElectionRolls – Odisha Launches Statewide Voter Verification Drive Ahead of Roll Update

ElectionRolls –  A large-scale voter verification exercise has begun across Odisha, with election officials starting a state-wide campaign to review and update electoral records. The initiative, carried out under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) programme, involves direct outreach to households by Booth Level Officers (BLOs), who will distribute enumeration forms, assist residents in completing them, and collect the submitted documents.

Odisha voter verification drive roll update

Verification Process to Continue Until Late June

According to state election authorities, the door-to-door verification drive will run from May 30 to June 28. During this period, BLOs will visit voters at their residences, mainly during morning hours, to ensure that electoral details are updated accurately. The exercise aims to maintain a reliable and up-to-date voter database before the publication of revised electoral rolls.

Officials stated that the forms include information related to personal details, family records, and references linked to earlier electoral data. During field visits, BLOs will examine the information provided and rectify minor inconsistencies whenever possible.

Focus on Accuracy and Inclusion

Election authorities have directed field officials to exercise caution throughout the verification process. The objective is to ensure that every eligible Indian citizen is properly included in the voter list while preventing the inclusion of individuals who do not meet eligibility requirements.

The revision exercise is considered an important step in strengthening the accuracy of electoral records before upcoming election-related activities. Officials have emphasized that careful verification at the grassroots level can help reduce errors and improve voter participation.

Key Dates Announced for Electoral Roll Revision

The election administration has also released the timeline for the remaining stages of the revision process. The draft electoral roll is scheduled to be published on July 5, providing voters an opportunity to review their details.

Citizens who wish to request corrections, additions, or deletions will be able to submit claims and objections between July 5 and August 4. Authorities will then examine the applications and complete the disposal process by September 2. The final updated electoral roll is expected to be published on September 6, 2026.

Additional Support Measures for Voters

To improve accessibility, BLOs have been instructed to remain available at their assigned polling stations every day from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. During this period, voters may directly submit completed forms or seek assistance regarding the verification process.

More than 45,000 BLOs have been deployed throughout the state for the exercise. Election officials noted that all personnel involved have received the necessary training to carry out the work efficiently.

In addition, around 33,000 Booth Level Agents have already been appointed and are currently undergoing training. Help desks have also been established to address voter concerns and provide guidance wherever required.

Online Facilities Available for Citizens

Residents who prefer digital services can download enumeration forms through the Election Commission’s online platform. Completed forms may also be submitted electronically. For assistance, voters can contact their designated BLO through the official mobile application developed for voter services.

Clarification on Errors and Supporting Documents

Election officials have clarified that most discrepancies found in voter records are generally minor in nature, such as spelling mistakes in names or inaccuracies in age details. Such issues can often be resolved through local field verification.

In cases involving more significant discrepancies, voters may be requested to submit supporting documents. However, authorities stressed that the absence of documentary evidence alone does not automatically affect a person’s eligibility. Final decisions in such situations will be taken by the Electoral Registration Officer after reviewing the available information.

Provision for Voters Living Away From Home

For voters who are temporarily residing outside their home locations, election authorities have allowed family members to receive enumeration forms on their behalf. Family members are also permitted to complete the necessary formalities and provide signatures where required, ensuring that eligible voters are not excluded from the revision process due to temporary absence.
