Election Update – Regional political developments and coalition talks in Tamil Nadu continue to dominate headlines after the Assembly election results produced a fractured mandate. Political uncertainty has intensified as parties negotiate support to determine who will form the next government.

Congress Demonstrates Support for TVK

The Tamil Nadu Congress on Friday organized demonstrations against the BJP-led Union government and Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, accusing them of delaying an invitation to TVK chief Vijay despite his party becoming the single-largest group in the Assembly elections. A separate protest was also conducted near Jhansi Rani Park in Madurai by Congress workers.

The Congress party has publicly announced its backing for Vijay and his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), during the ongoing political negotiations in the state. The move also signals a major political shift, as Congress has distanced itself from the DMK following the election outcome.

Numbers Game Continues in Assembly

Following the election verdict, TVK has intensified discussions with multiple parties in an attempt to secure enough legislative support to form the government. With the support of five Congress MLAs, the emerging alliance currently holds 112 seats in the 234-member Tamil Nadu Assembly. The coalition still remains six seats short of the majority mark of 118.

Attention has now turned toward the Left parties. The Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the Communist Party of India are holding separate executive meetings to decide their future political stand regarding support to Vijay’s party. Both parties have two MLAs each, and their backing could raise the alliance tally to 117 seats, leaving the grouping just one seat away from a majority.

Political Activity Intensifies Across Chennai

Amid the uncertainty surrounding government formation, political activity increased across Chennai on Friday. Senior AIADMK leaders were seen arriving at the residence of party General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami for internal discussions regarding the evolving political situation.

At the same time, TVK supporters gathered outside Lok Bhavan in Chennai and staged demonstrations demanding that Vijay be invited to form the government. Similar scenes were witnessed outside Vijay’s residence, where supporters expressed confidence that the actor-turned-politician would eventually assume office.

One supporter stated that the public had delivered a clear message through the election results and insisted that the Governor should take an appropriate decision soon. Another fan expressed excitement at the possibility of Vijay becoming the next Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.

End of Traditional Political Dominance?

The election outcome has triggered intense debate across the state because TVK managed to significantly disrupt the long-standing dominance of the two major Dravidian parties, DMK and AIADMK. Political analysts believe the results mark one of the most dramatic shifts in Tamil Nadu politics in recent decades.

For over thirty years, state politics largely revolved around the rivalry between the DMK and AIADMK. However, the latest verdict has opened the door for new political alignments and coalition-based governance. The coming days are expected to be crucial as parties continue negotiations to secure the numbers required for government formation.

Observers are closely watching whether smaller regional parties and independents will play a decisive role in resolving the current deadlock. Until then, Tamil Nadu remains in a politically charged atmosphere with competing claims and growing public interest over who will eventually lead the next administration.
