EducationSafety – Delhi Government May Assume Control of Janakpuri Private School
EducationSafety – The Delhi government is preparing to take strict administrative action against a private school in west Delhi’s Janakpuri following allegations of sexual assault involving a three-year-old student and concerns over major safety lapses on campus.

The Delhi government is considering taking over the administration of a private school in Janakpuri after school authorities reportedly failed to respond to an official notice issued by the Directorate of Education (DoE). Officials said the action is being considered due to alleged violations related to child protection, inadequate supervision, and non-compliance with mandatory education and safety regulations.
Directorate of Education Issues Warning
According to officials familiar with the matter, the Directorate of Education had issued a show-cause notice to the school management on May 8. The notice highlighted serious concerns linked to student safety arrangements and the institution’s responsibility to maintain secure conditions for children on campus.
The school management was instructed to submit a formal explanation within three days. Authorities warned that failure to provide a satisfactory response could result in the withdrawal of the school’s recognition and possible government intervention under the provisions of the Delhi School Education Act and Rules.
Officials stated on Monday that no response had been received from the institution within the stipulated timeframe. As a result, the department is now evaluating disciplinary measures, including the possibility of taking over the school’s management temporarily.
Incident Triggered Official Action
The administrative developments follow allegations that a three-year-old girl was sexually assaulted by a 57-year-old staff member inside the school premises. The case emerged after the child’s mother approached Janakpuri Police Station and filed a complaint regarding the alleged incident.
Police said the complaint was registered on May 1 after the child reportedly disclosed details of the assault to her family. Investigators stated that the accused employee was later arrested based on the allegations made in the complaint.
The case has raised renewed concerns over child safety practices in educational institutions, particularly in schools handling pre-primary and nursery students.
Family Complaint Details
According to the complaint submitted by the child’s mother, the girl had attended school on April 30, which was only her second day after admission. After returning home later that day, the child reportedly complained of physical discomfort and pain.
When questioned by her mother, the girl allegedly stated that she had been taken to a secluded section within the school premises where the accused staff member assaulted her during school hours.
The family immediately approached police authorities after hearing the child’s account. Officials confirmed that the suspect was taken into custody following preliminary investigation and questioning.
Focus on School Safety Measures
Education department officials said the case has exposed potential gaps in safety monitoring, staff supervision, and internal compliance systems within the institution. Authorities are now reviewing whether the school had implemented required child protection protocols and background verification procedures for employees.
The incident has also intensified discussions around stricter monitoring of private educational institutions across the national capital. Senior officials indicated that schools are expected to maintain strong security mechanisms, particularly for younger students who require constant supervision.
Meanwhile, the investigation into the alleged assault remains ongoing. Police officials said further legal proceedings will continue based on evidence collected during the inquiry.
