Education – IIT Delhi Convocation to Honour Graduates and Unveil New AI Supercomputing Facility
Education – Prime Minister Narendra Modi will deliver the address at the 57th convocation of the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi on Saturday, as the institute prepares to confer degrees on more than 3,000 students. The graduating cohort includes 587 PhD scholars, marking another significant academic milestone for one of India’s leading institutions of higher education and research.
More than 3,000 students to receive degrees
Union Education Minister Pralhad Joshi and NITI Aayog member Professor Abhay Karandikar will join the convocation as guests of honour. The ceremony will bring together students, faculty members, institute officials and distinguished guests to mark the completion of academic programmes across several disciplines.
This year’s graduating class also includes the first students to complete four programmes introduced at IIT Delhi. These include the Bachelor of Design, Executive MBA, MSc in Biological Sciences, and MA in Culture, Society and Thought. The inaugural batches of all four programmes have completed their studies in 2026.
Top-performing students to receive institute honours
The convocation will also recognise students who have achieved outstanding academic performance during their time at IIT Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to confer some of the institute’s highest student honours during the ceremony.
Among the awards to be presented are the President’s Gold Medal, Director’s Gold Medal, Shankar Dayal Sharma Gold Medal and Perfect 10 Gold Medals. The honours recognise exceptional academic achievement and overall performance among the graduating students.
Param Pragya to expand advanced computing capabilities
One of the key events surrounding the convocation will be the inauguration of Param Pragya, a high-performance computing facility powered by artificial intelligence capabilities at IIT Delhi’s Sonepat campus.
The new facility is expected to provide greater computing capacity for research involving artificial intelligence, data science and advanced computational technologies. It is also intended to support research that brings together multiple academic disciplines, giving researchers access to infrastructure needed for increasingly complex scientific and technological projects.
The facility comes as Indian educational and research institutions continue to strengthen their capabilities in emerging technologies and high-performance computing.
IIT Delhi signs agreements with 18 NITs
Before the convocation, IIT Delhi announced another major academic initiative through the signing of memoranda of understanding with 18 National Institutes of Technology. The agreements are aimed at creating stronger links between IIT Delhi and the participating NITs.
Under the collaboration, institutions will be able to pursue academic exchanges, joint research projects and wider use of research infrastructure. The partnership will also encourage collaborative supervision of student projects and theses, faculty development programmes and multidisciplinary research initiatives.
ALIGN initiative to strengthen institutional partnerships
IIT Delhi has launched a dedicated programme called ALIGN, or Academic Linkages for Innovation and National Growth, to support the new institutional partnerships.
The initiative is designed to provide a structured framework for sustained academic and research cooperation between IIT Delhi and its partner institutions. Through ALIGN, the institute aims to deepen collaboration in research, education, faculty development and innovation.
The convocation, therefore, will combine the recognition of graduating students with new initiatives focused on research infrastructure and cooperation across India’s technical education network.
