Development – Amit Shah Launches Tribal Welfare Centre in Bastar Region
Development – Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday inaugurated the newly developed Jan Jan Suvidha Kendra in Netanar village, marking the transformation of a security camp that had been functioning since 2013 into a public welfare and community service centre focused on tribal residents. The initiative has been introduced as part of wider efforts to improve civic facilities and strengthen development activities in the Bastar region of Chhattisgarh.

Welfare Centre Aimed at Community Growth
Addressing people during the inauguration ceremony, Shah described the occasion as a significant moment for the region and expressed confidence that the centre would soon become an active part of daily village life. He said the facility would evolve from a government project into a lively space serving local families and tribal communities over the coming months.
The Home Minister also referred to the historical importance of Netanar, calling it the land associated with tribal freedom fighter Veer Gunda Dhur. According to Shah, converting the former security establishment into a public welfare centre reflects a shift toward long-term peace and development in the area.
Focus on Essential Services in Villages
During his speech, Shah highlighted the objectives of the Niyad Nellanar scheme, stating that the broader campaign against Naxalism is not limited to security operations alone. He said the government’s priority is to ensure that remote tribal communities receive the same basic facilities available in urban areas.
He noted that fair-price ration shops are being opened in villages under the state government’s program. In addition, efforts are underway to expand access to primary education, drinking water, Aadhaar registration, and ration card services across rural settlements.
According to Shah, these measures are intended to improve living standards and reduce the developmental gap that has affected tribal populations for decades.
Rehabilitation and Literacy Programs Expanded
The Home Minister also spoke about rehabilitation efforts for tribal youth affected by years of unrest in the region. He said both the Chhattisgarh government and the Centre are jointly working to rehabilitate around 3,000 young men and women.
Shah stated that nearly 2,000 of them are currently unable to read or write. As part of literacy campaigns, volunteers associated with social organisations are helping participants gain basic education and practical skills. He added that the initiative is designed to support social integration and provide better opportunities for employment and self-reliance.
Plans to Strengthen Local Employment
Emphasising the next phase of regional development, Shah said the government’s long-term goal is to rebuild villages affected by Naxal violence and transform them into economically active tribal communities within the next five years.
He pointed to the dairy industry and forest-based products as two sectors capable of generating significant employment in Bastar. Shah said combining these industries with local participation could help create sustainable income opportunities for rural families.
The Home Minister also referred to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s message that development efforts must continue even after security conditions improve. According to Shah, true success against Naxalism will be measured by how effectively the region recovers from years of disruption and underdevelopment.
Government Promises Continued Support
Shah said both the Central government and the Chhattisgarh administration remain committed to accelerating development work across Bastar. He added that authorities would continue investing in infrastructure, welfare services, education, and employment programs to ensure long-term progress for tribal communities.
He further stated that the government intends to compensate for the setbacks faced by the region over several decades and help residents move toward a more stable and prosperous future.
