Court Reserves Decision After Hearing Arguments

Additional Sessions Judge Praveen Singh reserved the verdict after completing hearings involving 11 accused individuals. Among those facing charges is a former councillor associated with the Aam Aadmi Party. The court’s decision is expected to bring a crucial development in a case that has drawn public attention due to its connection with the large-scale disturbances witnessed in Delhi in February 2020.

Events Leading to the Investigation

According to the police case registered at Dayalpur Police Station, the complaint was filed by Ravinder Kumar, the father of Ankit Sharma. The complaint stated that Sharma had returned to his residence from work on February 25, 2020. After reaching home, he later stepped out again.

When he did not return after a considerable period, concern grew among family members. Relatives began searching for him in the surrounding area while attempting to gather information about his whereabouts. As hours passed without any contact, anxiety within the family intensified.

Information Received From Local Residents

The complaint further noted that local residents later informed the family about a tragic development. They reportedly told relatives that Ankit Sharma had been attacked and killed during the violence. It was also alleged that his body had been thrown into a nearby drain situated close to a mosque in the Chand Bagh Pulia locality near Khajuri Khas.

The information prompted authorities and family members to focus search efforts in that area. Investigators subsequently recovered Sharma’s body from the drain, an incident that became a key part of the police investigation and the legal proceedings that followed.

Case Linked to 2020 Northeast Delhi Violence

The murder case emerged from the broader backdrop of the northeast Delhi riots that took place in February 2020. The violence resulted in multiple deaths, injuries, and significant damage to property across several neighborhoods. Numerous criminal investigations were launched in the aftermath, with law enforcement agencies examining allegations involving various incidents reported during the unrest.

Among those cases, the death of Ankit Sharma attracted considerable attention because of his role as an Intelligence Bureau officer and the circumstances surrounding the incident. Investigators gathered evidence, recorded witness statements, and filed charges against several individuals as part of the legal process.

Awaiting the Final Judgment

With the verdict date now fixed, all parties involved in the case are awaiting the court’s final decision. The judgment is expected to determine the legal outcome for the accused and mark an important stage in a case that has remained under scrutiny for more than six years.
