Crime – Woman Dies After Brutal Assault by Husband in Mumbai Dispute
Crime – The death of a young woman in Mumbai has raised serious concerns about domestic abuse and delayed medical intervention.

A 29-year-old woman lost her life after allegedly being severely assaulted by her husband in Mumbai’s Wadala locality, following an argument linked to alcohol consumption. The victim, identified as Kavita Ramesh Lodi, also known as Kavita Mahesh Wad, succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment at a city hospital.
Argument Escalates Into Fatal Violence
According to initial findings shared by the police, the incident occurred after a heated dispute between Kavita and her husband, Mahesh Narayan Wad. Authorities stated that Mahesh had returned home under the influence of alcohol, which reportedly triggered another confrontation between the couple.
During the altercation, Mahesh is accused of physically attacking Kavita, repeatedly hitting and kicking her. Investigators also revealed that he allegedly threw a mobile phone at her, causing additional injuries. The intensity of the assault left Kavita critically wounded.
Delay in Medical Help Proves Critical
Despite her deteriorating condition, Kavita did not receive immediate medical attention. Police officials indicated that the lack of timely treatment significantly worsened her health. She later collapsed at home and was eventually taken to KEM Hospital, where doctors declared her dead during treatment.
Medical experts who conducted the post-mortem examination reported multiple injuries across her body. The findings indicated extensive physical trauma, with visible bruising suggesting prolonged and severe assault.
Complaint Filed by Victim’s Brother
The case came to light after Kavita’s brother, Shubham Ramesh Lodi, approached the authorities. A resident of Nerul in Navi Mumbai, Shubham informed the police about the circumstances surrounding his sister’s death. The family originally hails from Murud in Raigad district.
Based on his complaint, a case of murder has been formally registered at the Wadala Police Station. Investigators have begun gathering evidence and recording statements to establish the sequence of events leading to Kavita’s death.
History of Disputes Linked to Alcohol Use
Preliminary inquiries suggest that Mahesh Wad had a history of alcohol dependency, which had been a recurring source of tension in the marriage. Neighbors and local sources indicated that disagreements between the couple were frequent, often centered around his drinking habits.
On March 13, at approximately 2 pm, Mahesh allegedly returned home intoxicated, leading to the argument that escalated into violence. Police believe this was not an isolated incident but part of an ongoing pattern of domestic discord.
Accused on the Run, Search Underway
Following the registration of the case, Mahesh Wad has been declared absconding. Police teams have launched a search operation to locate and apprehend him. Officials stated that multiple leads are being pursued, and efforts are ongoing to bring the accused into custody.
Authorities have emphasized that strict action will be taken in accordance with the law once he is arrested. The case continues to be investigated, with forensic and witness evidence expected to play a key role.
Growing Concern Over Domestic Violence
The incident has once again highlighted the issue of domestic violence and the dangers of delayed intervention. Experts stress the importance of early reporting and timely medical care in such cases to prevent fatal outcomes.
Police have urged citizens to report instances of domestic abuse and seek help without delay. Support systems and helplines remain available for individuals facing such situations.
